One Night Stand

5 Years Later......

"Royal jhene howard" I yelled at my daughter.

It's her first day of kindergarten and if she takes any longer she's going to be late and I can't be late for work either. My boss will kill me if im late again.

"coming ma" I hear her yell back.

"you need to come a little faster" I tell her.

"Mommy, is my daddy gonna come take me to school today ?" I hear her ask me as she runs down the stairs. I honestly hate it when she asks about her father because it was a one night stand with a guy whose name I don't even know. I was 19 and just wanted to have fun, but after my mom found out she kicked me out and i had to live with my grandmother until I got on my feet.

"baby I don't think daddy is not gonna be able to make it today"

I see her make a dissapointed look.

"but how about after school I take you for ice cream" I say trying to cheer her up.

"yay ice cream" she screams loudly.

"but we gotta get you to school first, alright ?" I say.

"ok"

She grabs her lunch and her bookbag and I grab my purse and my badge for my security job and we head out the door front to my 2009 Honda Civic. It was a gift from my mom before she kicked me out.

After I drop royal off I head to my job. I'm a security guard for the Charlotte Chambers building. My boss is a real pain in the ass. It feels like she targets every little thing I do.

I walk into the break room to get all my stuff situated and get my morning coffee as I was making my cup my co-worker Ally calls me.

"Hey, the boss want's you in her office ASAP" she says.

"thanks, I'll be right there"

"no problem"

I walk into her office and she tells me to sit in the chair infront of her.

"How are you this mornig ms.Howard" she says.

"I'm fine, did you need me ?" I ask trying to get to the point.

"Well you've been slacking off on the job and coming in late alot and this security company doesn't need that right now so im going to have to let you go" she says with a cocky smirk on her face.

I just sit there dumbfounded and in shock that this bitch just fired me because I was late for two days in a row.

"how am I going to pay the bills ?" , "how am I going to take care of royal without this job ?". These are the thoughts that are running through my head right now.

"You have to have your belongings packed and out of here by the end of the day" she says with a sly attitude.

"umm, have a nice day" I say on the verge of tears.

I walk out of her office to get my things. After I get all of my things I got put them in the back seat. Once I get in my car i just start to cry. I cried harder than i did when I found out i was pregnant with royal.

I decide to call my grandma because she can always cheer me up and give me good advice. She answered on the third ring.

"hello"

"hey grandma, what you doing ?"

"watching Good Times, but what's wrong baby? you sound like you've been crying".

"I lost my job today grandma and I don't know how im going to take care of royal".

"oh stop all that crying. everything is going to be okay, doesn't your cousin angie live down there on charlotte?"

"yeah but what does that have to do with anything?"

"well I was talking to her the other day and she says she has a job that pays a whole lot of money so maybe you should see if she can help get you a job"

"what kind of job is it ?"

"she said it was private but you can ask her when you call her, right? "

"yes ma'am, thank you grandma"

"no problem baby, I love you"

"love you too"

After I hang up I feel a little bit better. I dont know what I would do without my grandma.

I drove home after calling my grandma because I really just need a nap. I'll just set my alarm to 3:45 so I can wake up in time to get my baby girl.

When my alarm goes off I dismiss it and start putting on my clothes to go get royal. I dont want her to ride the school bus with a whole bunch of bad ass kids so I just decided to pick her up everyday.

I get to her school around 4:20 and my baby was already waiting for me. When she got into the car i told her to put on her seatbelt and when she did i pulled off.

"Mommy are we still going to get ice cream ?" she asks

"I'm sorry baby but not today, mommy has alot of stuff on her mind and I just want to relax, okay?" I say in a apologetic tone.

"oookay" she says while pouting.

"we'll go get pizza and ice cream tomorrow okay?"

"hurray" she says excitedly.

When we get home it's time for royal to do her homework. When she finishes I go run her bath.

"Royal your bath water is ready" I yell to her from the top of the stairs.

"coming".

While she is in the rub I start on dinner, which will be barbecue chicken, macaroni & cheese, and corn. when I'm finished with dinner I go get royal out of the tub so we can eat. When we finishe I tell her ro brush her teeth and get ready for bed, while she does that I clean the kitchen until it is spotless.

I walk into royals royal blue and pink disney princess room and see her already knocked out. I kiss her goodnight an make my way to my room. I go to the bathroom to run my shower. I take a 20 minute shower and put on my pajamas. I put my phone on the charger and lay down but then I realize........
