He had his eye on her since the day they met, quietly watching as she went about her day. He never figured she'd even look his way, in his eyes he was nothing more than some loser covered in scars. To him she was the earthly equivalent of a goddess. Her beauty shined bright, always drawing him closer. He'd think to himself, there's no way she'd ever notice me. She hung out with the same people as him, joking along with everyone as he kept his moody behavior, playing everything off as if it were no big deal but the truth was every time she spoke his heart would pound away in his chest, her words were soft spoken and they rolled off her lush lips with ease... What he would give for a taste of them. Every morning he would try to get closer to her with a few jokes and some playful pokes here and there, he was worried she felt awkward because of it.
"Hey." He greeted her, his voice shaking with nervousness. She smiled back and his heart hammered in his chest as she returned his greeting. It was a day when they were alone standing in their usual place. Something was different that day, maybe there was something in the air, and maybe it was his imagination. Either way, it sent tingles down his spine. He tried to think of something to break the silence, "So, you like any of your classes this year?" He mentally kicked himself for being so lame; he used one of the most boring subjects to strike up a conversation. It was better than using the weather, which was kinda rainy that day. He didn't want her to think he was the gloomy type although he enjoyed it, he saw rain as a type of cleansing of the world around him, washing away all of the bad things... it was the exact feeling he got when he came around her.
"Yeah, some of them are interesting." She said with a smile on her face, he had a few classes with her. He doubted she had even noticed. It wasn't like he could really change that. Deciding against what he thought, he brought it up. To his surprise she knew he was in some of the classes with him.
"That business class is a bitch, right?" He chirped, giggling like a schoolgirl. She nodded and they jumped into the tedious assignments they had. It was beyond boring in there. "It helps that there's a cute girl in there though." He blurted out, he had meant for it to just be a thought in his head but there it was, floating through the air, Angel's eyes lit up when she heard it.
"Yeah, having cute people in a class helps." She didn't specify whom she was talking about. He took it as her being interested in someone else. Strike one, he thought to himself.
''Maybe we can work on some of the assignments together," Zack casually suggested, he was ecstatic when she nodded; he had been expecting a no, so we all know he was secretly doing somersaults on the inside. He didn't want to come off as weird though, so he settled on his trademark grin, it was the one he always had spread across his face when he was going to tell a joke or was enjoying something he was doing, a prime example? Flirting with a beautiful girl...
He didn't have any classes with her that day, so when the bell rang they went their separate ways, until after first block of course. Zack found himself daydreaming, his mind full of thoughts of her, Angel... Now not all of them were perverse, in fact most of them were pretty innocent and sweet, but there were a few thoughts that drew themselves towards her body, just imagining what she was like without clothes made his face burn and his body tremble, out of excitement of course...he had always been like that. He'd shake if the situation was new and exciting, or if he was nervous. He was yanked out of his thoughts when one of his friends thumped his forehead. "What the hell man!" He growled, rubbing the spot on his head. No doubt it was probably red.
"What're you thinking about?'' They asked curiously, Zack didn't want to admit that he had Angel on the brain so he started a roast session. ''I was thinking about that big ass forehead of yours." He grinned as he made an exaggerated measurement using eight fingers, "Fuckin' ten-head right there." His joke was answered with a playful punch on the arm. It went on like that for the rest of the class, his daydreams forgotten for the moment, but Angel still lived in his every thought.
Eventually the bell rang and everyone filed out of the tiny room and headed for the break area, Zack found the girl that had been on his mind standing in the usual spot. "Still no one?" He asked, realizing that none of the usual group was around. "Guess it's just us today, it's a good thing I got a pretty lady to keep me company." She giggled again and Zack noticed the lightest tint of red hinting at her cheeks... she was actually blushing! Not too bad Zack, not too bad. Her bangs fell down and covered her face, almost out of reflex Zack reached forward and lightly brushed them from her eyes. It was like he forgot what he was doing and instinct took over.
Angel's blush deepened to a darker shade of red as she quietly whispered, "Thanks..." It was still and awkward for a moment, neither could find the words to say and the silence was thick enough it was almost visible.
"You don't have to thank me, I was just wanting to get a better look into those eyes..." Zack choked out, it was a pretty risky thing to do but it was a good opportunity. One chance, he thought to himself as he moved a little closer. Angel backed into the wall out of reflex, looking unsure. He propped himself against the wall with one arm as he gently tilted her chin up, their eyes locked and tension was at an all time high as he moved in. The time it took to close the distance between them seemed to spread across eternity, he forced himself to keep his cool as his knees trembled slightly...then it happened, their lips were locked, it was like bolts of lightning passed through him. It only lasted a few seconds but it had felt like eons passed by the time their lips parted, "Wow..." It was the only thing Zack could manage to get out of his mouth, he was almost breathless... and he wasn't the only one. Somehow he had managed to wrap his arms around Angel, and she had him held against her as well. They could feel the other's heart pounding in their chest, the soft rhythm acting like a chorus, begging for an encore of the tender moment they had just shared.
Angel thought it over for a moment, looking at Zack as though she realized he had been there the entire time, "That was... amazing." She half whispered, her face flushed and burning bright as a heavy blush set in. They didn't say anything else, the bell rang and they headed back to their classes like usual, the two would be in the same class together next block but they didn't speak to each other, now it wasn't for the reason you might think. The friends had just shared a sweet and passionate moment, of course neither would've admitted it at the time but there was something there in the kiss...something that had been there since they met, a connection. They just had to find it.
Classes went on as usual, they reached the point where they spoke again. Mostly about school things, other times it would break off to their friends or some hilarious story involving one of the two. It wouldn't be until a few days later until it would be brought back up again, and this time it was Angel who engaged it.
"So about the...kiss." She started, not sure where to take it from there.
Zack held up a hand to silence her and it worked, "I wanna say I'm sorry about what happened, I just thought it felt right. It did feel right to me, and I can understand if you don't feel the same, but there's something about you. You're just so amazing. You always manage to make my heart skip a beat without ever trying, you are everything I'd ever want and that alone scares the shit out of me. So you don't have to say something to make me feel better if you feel different, just be honest.'' He was terrified that she would just call him weird or say he was a creep; the truth was almost as shocking.
"No dumbass, I liked it. I was gonna say that maybe after a date we could do it again so here's my number, " She handed him a piece of paper with a phone number, it had been decorated with hearts, smiley faces, and...a lipstick stain? He couldn't do anything but grin that joker's smile of his, "You need to get to planning lover boy, I'll be expecting you around eight, so don't keep me waiting." She turned and was about to walk off but paused as though she had just thought of something, "Oh and my parents won't be home tonight so maybe I could cash in on that study session you offered." Zack was left with two things, a lack of words and a solid afternoon to plan a decent date...
