"I like the summer rain, I like the sounds you make. We put the world away, we get so disconnected." -Disconnected (5 Seconds of Summer)

---

Luke flipped his wet fringe from his forehead and pulled the gray beanie over his ears. It was raining today and Luke would be glad otherwise-he really liked the rain-but he was going to the bakery to see Ashton. It'd only been a few minutes of walking and he was already swimming in his black vans. Lukes' camera and phone were tucked safely in his messenger bad (a scarf was wrapped around both to protect them from the rain) and his hoodie was doing little to nothing in protecting Luke from the harsh rain that was now falling in bigger drops.
"Shit shit shit," The string of curses flew freely from the boys' mouth as he splashed hurriedly through a puddle that was deeper then expected. Luke groans and pulls his messenger closer to himself as he jogs the rest of the way to the bakery.
Don't get him wrong-Luke loves the rain. He loves the smell before a storm, the summer rain against his skin, the races against two drops on a car window. But, he doesn't quite like the rain when he's trying to visit a cute boy.
By the time Luke made it to the bakery, he was drenched. (He even had to ring out his beanie before plopping it back on his head) Luke smiles at Maria upon entering and shakes out his hair, droplets scattering themselves around him. She takes in his dripping appearance and calls a quick, "Fiore!" behind her shoulder. A mop of honey waves with a bright ring of flowers around his head (Luke notices it faintly looks like a halo) peaks around the corner and raises his eyebrows in question. The two exchange a few phrases in Italian while Luke looks between them confusedly. Maria nods her head at one of Ashtons questions causing him to blush and Luke has never wanted to know Italian more than this moment in his life.
"Luke?" Ashton calls out, stepping from behind the counter to greet the punk boy. "Your clothes, and you, are soaking. I have some extras upstairs if you want to change?" Ashton cringed inwardly at his statements that sounded like questions. They weren't supposed to be questions, but he panicked half way through. Typical Ashton Irwin behavior.
Luke shakes his head which causes a shiver to go through his body. "I'm alright. Wouldn't want to be a bother." He's slightly chattering his teeth now and Ashton laughs lightly (It's more of a giggle, really.) before shaking his own head.
"It's no problem, seriously. I live right upstairs. We could go now if you'd like." Ashton jerks his head backwards and smiles slightly, his dimples popping out.
"Uh, yeah. Thanks." Ashton turns and glances over his shoulder every few seconds to make sure the taller lad is still following him-each glance returned with a small smile. The short boy leads the taller up the narrow staircase in the back of the bakery to the well lit room that he calls home.
"This is... This is home," Ashton looks back to Luke to see him with his mouth slightly agape as he looks around the room.
"It's.. Homey." Luke says lamely causing Ashton to laugh.
"Yeah it's great." A drop from Luke splashes on the ground. "Oh! I'll be right back with some warm clothes." Ashton gives another reassuring smile (he's a very smiley person Luke notices) and quickly walks up another set of stairs to his room. Luke is immensely taller than himself so he grabs the clothes that are slightly too big before walking back to Luke holding one of his family photos. When the blond hears the other approaching, he quickly sets the photo back in its place and takes the clothes in Ashtons outstretched hands. Luke stares blankly at the clothes in his hand.
"There's a bathroom through those doors. First door on the left." Ashton supplies and Luke flashes him a brief smile before disappearing to the direction Ashton set him in. Ashton picks up the frame that Luke had held in his hands and smiles. The photo is of his mother - looking tired but beautiful as ever - holding a small blue bundle in her arms while Ashton gives a cheesy smile to the camera. It's one of his favorite pictures in his apartment and he treasures it.
Luke changes quickly, avoiding the mirror completely because he was not dealing with his demons today. Not if he was seeing Ashton. He gathers up his soaking heap of clothes and exits the bathroom, shutting the door behind himself. Luke closing the door, caused Ashton to look up from the photo in his hand. He places the photo back in its rightful place and picks up Luke's messenger bag, the heavy weight unfazing.
"Here's your bag. We can put your clothes in the dryer if you want?"
"Yeah, sure. Uh, I mean," Luke panics, blue eyes wide, "If that's okay with you? You've done so much for me already and I don't want to overstep my boundaries." He's hunching into himself, trying to disappear and look smaller than he is. Ashton giggles and reaches for the dripping clothes.
"I wouldn't have asked if I wasn't okay with it, silly." Luke blushes at the name but smiles and let's Ashton take the pile. While Ashton makes his way to the washroom, Luke realizes two things. One, he wants to spend as much time as he possibly can with Ashton and two, Ashton is the cutest and most innocent person he's had the privlage to meet. With his dimples and cute laugh that lights up Luke's world, how can he not want to spend as much time as he can with him?
Ashton makes his way back to Luke and sighs happily. He doenst really know why he's happy but there's a warm feeling building up in his chest that's making his heart flutter. Maybe it has something to do with the punk god in his living room, maybe it's the fact that the said punk god is wearing his clothes. Maybe it's because of the rain. Who knows? (Actually he does know why but is too shy to admit it).
"You wanna come down to the bakery with me?" Luke looks up from his hands at Ashton's voice and smiles, his own dimples popping out, and nods. Ashton wants Luke to smile more often.
