"The shark cage will be our last resort should tomorrow's planned dive go wrong. End of conversation."
Flynn wants to scream at Sammael about how ridiculous it is to continue to put the team's wellbeing at risk all for the sake of following his schedule.
He wants to pitch a fit and prove a point but he's not a child anymore and he has far too much pride to go through with such behaviour.
He holds his tongue and walks away, moving towards the back deck of the boat.
The deck is crowded with spare diving equipment and fishing equipment including harpoon guns and buckets of chum.
Flynn stares at the cage and the winch system used to lift and lower it, he decides to examine the cage and it's setup.
The chains and winch system seem in good condition but he doesn't really know what to look for other than rust and chips in the metal.
The cage is sturdy and locks shut via a metal hatch in the top, it has narrow window cut into the metal bars which make up the main frame work.
"You want to use it to dive?"
He's used to Sagan sneaking up on him now, he guesses it's just part of her instinct to check in on him constantly.
"Yeah. Figured Sammael would be more open to safety but he's got his schedule and he doesn't want to change it."
She sighs loudly and walks over to sit near him as he examines the bars of the cage for any damage.
"He can be trying at time but he is simply following orders...like the rest of us I suppose."
Flynn feels the need to yell about how ridiculous it is to blindly follow orders and how dangerous it could be in this situation but he forces it down again, hoping that they'll see reason before tomorrow comes.
He finds no problems with any of the equipment and is happy to leave it be, deciding to head inside and look at the camera footage for a bit.
Upon entering the observation room he notices that the sonar has picked up a few bursts of movement from deeper water, strange given how calm the water had been every other time he'd checked the data.
Flynn settles down in front of one of the monitors and pulls up the data from the sonar.
The bursts of movement are recorded as being from shoals of fish, moving about in a panic as though they were being pursued.
"Well that's slightly unnerving..."
He isn't sure why he whispers that phrase to himself.
He can't quite understand why the air suddenly feels colder or why he now feels like something is watching him from below.
The notice sound from the sonar makes him jump a little, a new data point has been recorded.
'Living organism detected, depth of 68 metres. Size four metres twelve centimetres in length.'
His blood runs cold as he sees such a large creature appear on the data scale, bigger than anything else recorded so far.
He hurriedly flicks to the camera feed but can see nothing but dark, open water beneath the boat.
The creature has vanished and suddenly Flynn misses his island home more than anything on the planet.
He wonders whether his own little sail boat is okay where he moored it. He prays that his home is still standing untouched waiting for him.
Most of all he prays to the gods of his people that no one on his island of origin has fallen victim to the creature.
He hopes that Sammael will see reason but hope cannot outweigh the fear in his mind.
