Am I Gone?

Remembering Nikki

Kimmy's Prov.

Theo and Nikki walk in my room with big smiles on their face.

"Hey?" I say confused.

Theo opens his mouth, but before he could speak Nikki cuts him off. "We have a huge surprise!"

Theo walks over to me and hands me a computer.

"Press play." He says.

I press play. After I do a slide show of Nikki and I as little kids comes on.

A really funny picture of us pops up. It was before our first soccer game.

I laugh and press pause. They look at me oddly.

"That was the best day of my life. It was when you and I had our first soccer game and our first goal."

They look at me with wide eyes.

"What?"

Nikki burst out, "You Remember! Quick when's my birthday!?"

"Easy March 20. OMG Nikki I remember you!"

I jump out of my bed and scream. I run up to her and hug her.

"I've missed you!" She says with tears in her eyes.

"I can't believe I forgot you!" I say sobbing.

She looks at me. "Do... do you remember Theo?"

I look at her and then at him. "I... I know we dated. I just don't remember any of our dates. How we met. Even why I liked him."

She frowns.

I look at Theo. He's trying not to cry.

"Theo I'm sor-"

He cuts me off. "Kimmy it's not your fault."

"Wait we still have more to show you." Nikki says gesturing to the computer.

I watch the rest. I remember almost all of the memories with Nikki, but none of Theo's memories.

After I finish the slide show the doctor walks in.

"Hello Ms. Kimmy. Your mother just signed you out. We went through your scans and I've come to a very good conclusion. You should start remembering things slowly. You're free to go."

At that moment Theo runs out of the room.

Nikki helps me get all my stuff together. She tells me how painful it was not to have her best friend, me, around, but that makes me think of how Theo must feel.

All of a sudden Theo comes running up the stairs. He whispers something in Nikki's ear and she says okay.

Then he grabs my hand, and says, "You're coming with me I have a surprise."

"Okay?" I say questionably.
