Stan did the one thing he hated doing. He ran. He ran away from the corner of the woods as fast as he could. Away from the clown that had been haunting him for the past two weeks.
He found his way to the cul-de-sac. There were a couple of younger kids milling around. Stan looked at the houses, recognizing one of them as Mike's house.
He ran up to the front door, frantically looking around for any signs of IT. He knocked on the door, still looking around.
A teenage girl answered the door.
"Who are you?" she asked, genuinely curious.
Stan looked at the girl, absolute fear in his eyes. "I'm Stan." he answered, "Is Mike home?"
"Why?" the girl asked, growing suspicious.
"It's important." Stan simply stated, "And it has nothing to do with you."
"Oh excuse me," the girl replied sarcastically.
"Nancy, who's that?" a woman's voice asks from inside the house.
"Just some stranger asking to talk to Mike," Nancy yelled back into the house.
"A new friend?" the women yells.
Nancy turned to face him,"Are you?" she asks.
"Am I what?" Stan asks, obvious confusion in his tone.
"Mike's friend." Nancy answers while smirking.
"Yes." Stan answers.
Nancy sighs and moves out of the way of the door. "Come in," she mutters.
Stan walked into the house and found his way to the basement door. Before he could knock on the door, it swung open by itself, making a soft creaking noise as it did so. Stan looked down the stairs. Nothing was wrong. So why was his heart beating through his chest? Why was he scared? A hand touched his shoulder, making his turn around in surprise and fear.
"Jesus," Nancy exclaimed. "Are you gonna go down there? Or do you have a fear of basements?"
"Shut up," Stan growled, before turning back to the basement door.
The soft sound of circus music could be heard from down the stairs. Stan stood frozen in fear.
"What the hell is that?" Nancy mumbled, before walking by Stan to go downstairs. Stan only watched in horror of what was to become of the teenage girl.
Nancy reached the bottom of the stairs, "Mike?" she called out, "Where are you?"
"Everything alright?" Stan asked from the top of the stairs.
"I swear to god that Mike came down here. I remember him doing it too."
Stan took a deep breath before walking downstairs. The stairs creaked as he walked down them. He reached the bottom and stood beside Nancy. The basement looked the same as it had the first time he was allowed in it yesterday. The only difference was the circus music, which had now grown louder.
"Stan?" a hoarse voice called out.
"Bill?" Stan asked.
"O-over here." Bill stuttered.
Stan followed his friend's voice to a curtain. Nancy followed. Stan ripped the curtain down from the ceiling.
He almost wished he hadn't.
He saw Bill shackled to a wall with chains by his wrists. A wall that was definitely not part of Mike's basement. The room beyond the curtain smelled like mold and urine. Bill's face was covered in tear stains and blood, and he was still crying.
