Doctor Smith took hours raiding Venit's office, reading all his notes and running around.
She soon started interviewing Alec, asking, what happened why is he alive who else was here.
Alec had been the only human. The rest were beasts. That's what the bodies were outside.
Olivia finally decided to walk over to her, "what did you mean? Is she really a beast?"
Doctor Smith nodded and smiled wildly, "I think she has the early settings of it. That's most likely why her parents abandoned her in that house an-"
"Wait...how did you know she was abandoned like that?" Olivia glared.
She blinked, whoops, "oh uh."
"Doctor Smith...why did she trust you? She didn't run from you but it was easy for her to leave you."
"Oh uh...funny story about that...I may have watched her from a distance for a few months." She smiled and took a breath of her cigarette.
Olivia stepped back, "she was starving! She had no food! She could of been attacked! Why didn't you help her!"
"No that's the interesting part! She wasn't attacked! They left her alone. And I know why. When her parents left her, it was because she was turning into the beasts. But she never truly did now did she? No she's still stuck in the middle. For now at least. Trust me if any one attacked her I would of helped. I love her like a daughter. But people did come. Some humans found her, but they didn't survive the night. The beasts came and ate them, dragged the bodies away, all while she slept. Isn't that interesting?!"
"NO!" Olivia grabbed for Doctor Smith's sword.
Doctor Smith grabbed her wrist, eyes shinning madly, "it's interesting Olivia. But I want her to stay with us. I can keep us safe. But also I want to watch her progress and turn into the beast."
"How....did she trust you?" Olivia tried to pull away.
"I was friends with her parents for the longest time. Broke off from them and followed from a distance when I saw the signs."
"So she...knows you" Olivia's voice softens.
Doctor Smith's smile did not help the mood, "yes. She does. Now leave me be so I can finish reading his work. He is really a genius. His theory is that the beasts are really human with a mental illness. I think that's close yes. Juniper must just be developing it. Don't know where it comes from. Maybe stress. Maybe not. I'll continue his work with Juniper here."
"Oh my God you're gonna cut her open?!"
"Didn't I just say she's like a daughter to me?" Doctor Smith huffed, smoke blowing from her mouth.
Maybe so, maybe she is like doctor Smith's daughter.
But maybe that's bad, means she is really crazy.
