Chapter 1~ The not-so-social butterfly
~ Part 1-Opening up!~
*Sigh*
I let out a loud whoosh of air as I hung the last wind chime on my window. Great, I finally finished unpacking…that is, well, of my room… Well? Hey! Living alone with your baby sister is really not that easy. Especially if you’re in high school…
White Gardens. That’s the name of the cute little town I moved in just this weekend. I opened the window, and felt the warmth of the sun. I smiled and looked out. The scene delighted me. It would delight anyone. I saw a whole lot of greenery, and “white-ry”. I mean this is why this town is named so. It has a whole lot of white wild flowers growing here and there. The people got inspired or something, and thus most of the houses have lovely white walls. They keep white flower plants and bushes in their garden. Lovely! I was refreshed. Nice place huh?
I looked at Amy, my three year old sister, sitting beside a carton packed with my stuffed toys. She really likes teddy bears huh? I turned back towards the window.
I breathed in the air. Smelled of flowers. A cool breeze blew in. The chimes I hung on the window danced in the wind. What a sweet melody!
*Hajimari no kaze yo. Todoke ‘messa-ji’, it’su demo anata wo, shinji tei ru kara!!*
One of my favorite songs… It’s in Japanese. It means “winds of the beginning, deliver my message…” I heard it from an anime I used to watch, and hey! It’s my ringtone!
I turned to my table and picked up my ringing mobile.
‘Hello?’
‘Melissa? How are you? Have you finished unpacking yet? How’s the town? How is Amy? Did you meet Judian yet? Do you have any problems? Maybe you shouldn’t have gone. We could just have-’
‘Mother! Relax! It’s okay!! Okay? Listen, I am almost done with unpacking-’ I lied, ‘and Amy’s fine. I didn’t meet Judian yet.’ I counted ticks off my finger, ‘ I like this town, It’s cute. And finally-’ I took a deep breath, ‘ I think this is the best decision you ever took. So relax.’
‘You sure?’
‘Yup!’
‘Kay… I have to go now. Take care… Love you dear…’
‘Bye Mom. Love you too. Tell dad, I love him.’
‘Yes.’ I heard as she clicked off the phone. I sighed again. Actually, dad and mom work abroad. So they stay away all time. I moved in to White Gardens, because I wanted some time for myself, not found in big cities. I don’t know, its as if I am missing something there. And I had Amy, my baby sister with me, so I wasn’t going to feel lonely here anymore…
And Judian? He is my Mom’s friend. She met him in a trip abroad. She said that he was very well-mannered and nice. He must in his mid twenties, she told. And she felt like the happiest person, she said, when she came to know that he lives in White Gardens. “He is really cute…Hey I guess you guys should be friends. And then…” she had said, all star- eyed, “you guys will fall in love and marry and…”
Ugh! Mom! Sometimes she gets crazy. I mean this guy must be 6 or at least 7 years older than me. Ugh! Mom! I mean its not like have a problem with that. I wonder what will happen when I actually meet him. Actually I…really can’t talk with guys. I have this uh, problem of mine. Ever since Aden, my child hood friend left me about twelve years ago. He was my best friend. No crush or first love, like in other stories. Just a friend, a very nice one. I miss him. He left all suddenly, without even telling me…
