They walked quickly through the towns main street, the road quiet and the walkways empty. Daniel paced up towards an ATM on the side of the local bank building, and he fumbled through his bag for his wallet, opening it, taking out his bankcard, shoving it into the ATM.
He tapped the screen and selected to withdraw all his money that he had been saving up from working at the pizza shop, before punching his PIN in and waiting for the transaction to process. The little opening below the screen propped open and multiple bank notes slid out of it, he counted the money, a little over a thousand dollars.
His card popped back out and he ripped it out of the machine, pushing it into his pocket, and they set off. They began to grow weary, having travelled to the outskirts of the town and further, they needed to stop off and rest at a nearby motel for the night.
"Are you sure we can book a night here, Dan?" Aidelle asked as they approached the building, "don't you need to show them ID?"
Daniel smiled at her and reached into his pocket, withdrawing his mothers ID card.
"I got my mum's ID card, and we can just tell the person at the register that she's getting us to book it for her, we're her children, and she'll turn up soon," he replied to her, calmly.
"Are you sure it'll work?" She questioned him, concerned.
"Well it's certainly worth a shot."
They entered through the doors of the motel and walked up to the counter, nervous. A woman walked out from an archway behind the register, before looking at Daniel and Aidelle and smiling.
"Hi! Welcome to the Fraireemont motel, would you like to book a room?" She asked politely.
"Um, yes please," Daniel spoke quietly.
"Sure! Do you have a credit card?" The woman asked.
"Yes I do, but we're making a booking for our mum," he spoke, pulling out his credit card.
"Where is she?" The lady asked, looking around.
"Oh, she's coming later, but she told us to make the booking now," Aidelle chimed in.
"Alright, well could you tell me her phone number just to confirm it, your name is...?" The receptionist replied.
"Daniel, and this is my sister, Aidelle."
"And what's your mother's name?"
"Eliza Atophis."
Daniel told the woman his mother's phone number, watching her dial it into the work phone, before pausing, and then opening her mouth to speak.
"Hello Missus Atophis! I'm Claire from the Fraireemont Motel, how are you?"
Daniel and Aidelle shifted nervously as the woman spoke on the phone.
"That's good! I was just wondering if you were aware of your children, Daniel and Aidelle, making a booking for you tonight?"
The lady had a puzzled expression on her face, and looked at Daniel and Aidelle suspiciously.
"Yes, your son and daughter, right?"
Daniel panicked and felt his heart begin to race, and he looked over at Aidelle who had the same scared expression on her face.
"Oh okay, yes, yes we all have those moments. Okay then it's all good! I'll give them the key then, I hope you enjoy your stay when you arrive!" She finished as she placed the phone in the holder.
"Well you're right, your mum knew, but she forgot she had two kids! You two must feel loved don't you?" She laughed at the two of them.
Turning around, the woman took a key from the key rack behind her and handed it to Daniel.
