(A/N: This chapter is longer. Thank you to all my readers of this story, I love each and every one of you. On to the story.)
Annabeth
It was time for school. I had run home to get dressed (I wouldn't want to wear Percy's shirt to school) and was nervously awaiting my conversation with Luke. It was my first period, and I had homeroom with Mr. Dionysus Bacchus, he is a kind of fun teacher, but he seems like one who parties all night, and can never remember anyone's names. Role call:
"Annie bell Choose"
"Here," I sigh,
Katerina Flower
"Present," Katie Gardener says,
Little Cl-ares
"It's Clarisse," Clarisse growls,
"Pleasant as always, my dear, Clover Abovewood,"
"Here," Grover bleats,
(Sometimes I don't know if he is just pranking us, or being serious.)
Jace Grace
"Here," Jason yells,
"Peppy McQueen,"
"Present, and my name is Piper," Piper says in a way that almost everyone abides to,
"Of course, Pepper," Mr. D says, winking making us all stare in shock as hardly anyone can resist her charms. "Okay, now, let us all go into a read to self, AKA, everyone do what you want, while I 'grade papers'" Mr. D says with air quotes and a wink.
Then, he saunters into his office and shuts the door. I was the only one who was reading, I think, but soon enough, the bell rings, and I can finally go to my next period, gym. Luke was in that class. We were just about at the end of our wrestling unit, and we're starting to do matches against each other. "Okay, cupcakes," Coach Hedge, our gym teacher yells, "Let's get going. We will Clarisse and Chris, Rachael and-" I stopped listening, because at that moment, Luke walked in. I could hear Coach yell something at him, he always yells. I went up to Luke, and he was wearing a tank top. "I am so sorry!" I say and start to ramble, he stops me and says, "Annabeth it is okay. I forgive you, and I am sorry that I slapped you, I should have never done that." That was when I noticed something was different about him. My jaw dropped into a perfect o. I stared at his right arm where his book tattoo used to be. It was gone. "Y-you," I stuttered, "You aren't my soulmate?" My voice cracked.
He faked it? All these years? Why? Luke looked at his arm in shock and ran back into the locker room. Tears started pouring out of my eyes. "I-" I managed to squeak out before running out of the room. I ran to the bathroom and cried in there for a solid half an hour. I hear the bell ring, and I am still crying. I hear girls coming in and out, and try to cover up my sobs. Suddenly, I hear the bathroom door slam open, and I could hear screams and footsteps running out of the bathroom. The lock to the stall was torn off, and I saw a raven haired man wearing a hoodie staring at me softly. Percy knelt down and wrapped his arms around me. I melted into his embrace. "Luke-," I started.
"Shh, shh, shh, it's ok, I know, shh, shh," Percy comforts me,
I nestled my head into the crook of his neck he wiped of my tears and carried me out of the bathroom. He covered me with his jacket because I was shivering, and the whole time, kept whispering, "Shh, shh, it's ok, I am here, everything is going to be alright," he took me to Ms. Love's class. She took one look at us, and said to Percy, "Take her home, I will let your mom know."
"Thank you," He said, and ran to his car.
He laid me down on the backseats, and got in the driver' seat. He took off towards his mom's house. By the time we got there, Sally (that's what she told me to call her) had set up a heaping tray of blue cookies. She went to her room to allow Percy and I some privacy.
"I am so sorry," he said.
"It's okay, it was not your fault." I smiled weakly. "What I don't understand is how he is my soulmate, but I am not his, I mean I just got my second tattoo, and now, I find out I am not his soulmate. Does this mean he was never my soulmate? Or that someone else is?" Percy paled slightly at my questions, but I was too confused to notice.
"I am supposed to be smart." I said.
"You are smart, Wise girl," Percy says
"Seaweed brain," I say, my eyes widening slightly, thinking about my tattoo, Luke's tattoo.
"Owl head,"
"Fish boy,"
"Uhm..."
"Ha! I win!" I say. Percy pulls me into a hug, and I hear him whisper something, but can't make out what he says. "What did you say?" I ask him.
"Nothing," he replies. At that moment, Sally comes back into the room and sees me curled up in Percy's arms, and says, "Percy, go back to school."
"But, Mom!!" Percy whines.
"Go," I say and give a kiss on his cheek. He blushes, and runs out the door after mock saluting at me. Sally and I both laugh.
She squeals, "We are going to watch chick flicks! When I broke up with my boyfriends in high school, I used to watch these all the time, and they would always help me feel better!"
"Okay," I said, and we curled up on the couch and started watching To All the Boys I've Loved Before to help me get over Luke, but as we started, all I could think about was not Luke, not the movies, but Percy.
Percy
As I rode back to school, I thought about the kiss on my cheek, and I thought about what I had whispered to Annabeth that I did not have the guts to say to her face. I told her something that I had just realized as she was laughing at and with me. I said something that I hadn't said to any girl in years, I said, I love you.
