Hey guys! Thank you all so much for everyone who reads this story! I love you all. This chapter is dedicated to anyone who comments. Especially with hints and helpful reminders. ;-) Sorry it took me so long to update.
Percy
I get out to the parking lot, and start the 20 minute drive home with my mom in the passenger seat.
"Mom," I say, "I saw Annabeth at the swim meet."
"Oh, that's great, dear." she replies.
"Mom," I say again, "Annabeth's step mom hits her."
"Percy, why wouldn't you tell me this earlier?! We need to call the police and let them know." My mom says already taking out her phone.
"No, Mom, don't. I think this is a problem that Annabeth needs to solve on her own. Even though her stepmom hits her, I feel like she won't let herself stop her stepmom." I said. "I think this is an internal battle that she has to win inside herself. I will be there for her, and I will stand next to her when she needs me, but I feel like I am not the right person to come in and fix things."
"Oh, Percy, I understand what you are saying. I hope she can find someone who is able to help her through this." My mom says.
I hope so too, and I think I know exactly who it'll be. (A/N: Who do you think?)
Annabeth
It's Monday. Mondays always suck. To start, well... it's a Monday, and as much as I like school, still...
Second, my step monster is coming home. I will also have to see Luke, which I will probably never look forward to again.
Today goes by slowly. I pass Rachel in the hall and ask how she is doing. Luckily, she is fine, thanks to The Savior.
Finally, it is lunch. Piper is just blabbering on about The Savior of Olympus, with a slightly jealous looking Jason sitting nearby.
I glance at Percy sitting at the edge of the table, tapping a rhythm on his arm where his soulmate tattoo should be, but as almost always, he is wearing a hoodie and sweat pants. (This is important.)
Looking away, I say to Piper and everyone else, "I talked to The Savior of Olympus yesterday." I looked at Percy to gauge his reaction. He perks up like everyone else when I mention The Savior, making me lose all suspicion, because we all know Percy is not full of himself... though he can be very stubborn, and what's the word... sassy.
"You WHAT?!??!?" Piper squeals, "I've been here yammering about getting to see a somewhat up close view of The Savior, and you got to meet him and hear him speak? No one gets to hear him speak!!!"
"Well, it wasn't a big deal, I mean, he was already changed into a T-shirt and shorts anyway. I just said hi, and he did too. Done deal." I say.
"Oh, come on, Annabeth, give us the deets!!" Piper says. Hazel nods her head vigorously.
"Well, he was really sweet, and he didn't have any sort of ego, he was really grounde-"
"Ohh! Annie's got a crusshh!" Thalia cuts me off. Only she can call me Annie. I continue,
"His voice was really deep, and frankly, it was hot." I admit, reminiscing.
Just then, Percy choked on his slice of pizza. As he is coughing and wheezing, Grover is smacking his back. Jason soon joins in, smacking Percy on the back with his palm, laughing, and earning a glare from his girlfriend. Finally, Percy manages to drink some water, and the table goes silent.
Suddenly, I can't help myself. With the inconvenient and coincidental timing, I burst out laughing. Thalia soon follows, and within a few seconds, the whole table is filled with laughter.
With tears in his eyes, Jason says, "Careful, Perce, you don't want to choke over the hot Savior of Olympus again," commencing a whole new round of laughter. Percy blushes, embarrassed.
That was the best lunch in a while.
Later... Gym class (still Annabeth)
Today was the start of... Archery...yippee! Not that I am bad at it or anything, it's just that it isn't my favorite. Daggers are. (Man that sounds creepy...)
Anyway. We all begin and start shooting at targets outside. Of course, all mine hit bullseye. I mean, all you really do is calculate the ratio of the bow string's angle to the angle of your arm, and boom. Perfect shot.
As we are all shooting, I glimpse something shiny in the corner of my vision. I recognize it as a rubber arrow with a metal tip. Only one thing. It is being shot backwards...expertly, nock and fletchings pointed forward. The rubber hits a nearby tree, and bounces right back towards the shooter. (Honestly, I know next to nothing about archery. I just looked some of this stuff up.)
Suddenly, a gust of wind blows the arrow in a different direction. Straight towards the one and only... Rachel Dare. I watch and quickly calculate where the arrow will hit. Her heart.
Time starts moving in slow motion. "RACHEL! WATCH OUT!" I yell out with serious deja vu. Rachel looks up at me and sees the arrow... managing to move slightly to her right, just enough for the arrow to only nick her arm.
Everyone glares at the shooter. I turn, following their glares and see Luke.
"Luke..." I say. He looks away and walks off towards the school building.
"Rachel," I say, focusing on her. "Are you alright?"
"Y-yeah," she replies, "just scared, that's all. I saw my life flash before my eyes..."
"I saw the arrow. Luke didn't mean that for you. I saw the wind blow it towards you. I think Luke was trying to shoot himself."
Everyone looks skeptically. "Think, guys... At Piper's party, he jumped from the high dive. There is almost no way he could have seen Rachel before falling, and he was going to do a belly flop. That would've killed him if Rachel hadn't broken the fall. I'm telling you, guys, I don't think Luke is trying to hurt Rachel. I think he is trying to commit suicide."
End Chapter. Until next time.
