Chapter 4: Just a Friend
I debated myself in going to school. It's Tuesday and the last day before semester break. The thought of seeing Damen picking me as his leading lady just to anger me, passed me more. I buried my head in my pillow and let out a muffled groan.
Damn! He really does know how to spite me. I can't believe I fell for his prank!
Screw you, Damen psycho Chase!
I stood up and took a bath. I decided to go to school to prove him that I'm completely not affected. I grabbed a black cardigan, designer jeans, and pulled out my converse.
I went down stairs to grab a bar for breakfast, kissed mom and Amy goodbye, and just in time for Taylah to arrive.
I jogged down the gravel pathway towards her car.
"Good thing you're on time." she sighed in relief.
"Yeah, well good thing I decided not to play sick today." I winked.
"How dare you!" she slapped my arm lightly, indicating she was only joking.
I laughed, "C'mon, girl. Hit the road." and we drove off.
The drive to school was silent. Not the awkward silence, but the comfortable silence.
We arrived in school just in time for the bell to ring for first period. I bid my goodbye to Taylah, and hurriedly went to class, just in time for the other students to fill in.

History was a bore. I was really glad that it ended and know I'm in the Science laboratory waiting for classes to start. Chad then entered three minutes after I entered.
"Morning!" he said it cheerfully, a smile plastered on his face.
I couldn't help but smile back.
"Mornin'." The glumness was probably evident in my tone because he frowned.
"What's wrong?" his face was plastered with concern as he plopped down beside me.
"Nothing." he nodded and eyed me.
"Lin, what's up with you and Damen?"
I was stunned. I was really caught off guard by his sudden question. More importantly, the way he went straight to the point asking it without a moment's hesitation.
"No-nothing." I was getting nervous. Is he interrogating me? We just met yesterday!
"So you guys aren't dating?"
"No!" I didn't hesitate on answering, I feel my cheeks burn and quickly looked away.
"Good, because he's no good for you." I looked at him.
"What makes you say that?"
"Because he'll only hurt you." He looked me in the eye, seriously. "You deserve better." he held both of my hands, "Like me."
I was stunned. I can't believe he said that. I'm not that attractive looking to be liked. I'm very plane and boring. I pulled my hands away, "Chad, I'm not so pretty, why would you say that?"
His looks softened, "You are pretty, Evalina. You just don't know. You're beautiful inside and out, just by being who you are. I find you really attractive." he smiled, "So please, give me a chance to court you."
I was really getting unsettled by this.... "I'll think about it." I gave him a sly smile, he returned it with a wide smile. The truth is, I only think of him as a friend, but I can't tell him that. Not yet. I'm just afraid to hurt his feelings.
The bell rang. I sighed in relief.
Thank you bell, I can never be ever grateful for your annoying sound.
All students took their respective seats and classes began.

Me and Taylah are enjoying the fun gossip we were talking at lunch. When lunch ended, we bid both our farewells and went to each of our assigned classes. I went straight ahead to English class as always, as the class was about to start.
The class went on and on and on. I keep on avoiding Damen as possible. He always sends this notes to me telling if I was okay but I returned them back to him without any reply and continued to zone him out while concentrating on the topic. Finally, after like an eternity for me, the class ended.
I stood and grabbed my bag from the floor, and just as I was about to exit, a hand held me. I looked for the owner, and saw Damen staring at me with concern. I gave him a small smile and gently pulled my hand back.
"I'm okay." I patted his arm and clipped a smile. He was about to say something when I turned around, leaving.
I was okay in the outside, but deep inside of me.... I really wasn't.
