I finally read Hawkwing's Journey!
I wasn't expecting much since I'm not really that interested in SkyClan, but I loved it!
SPOILER WARNING
I felt that Hawkpaw was a very relatable character. His grief over Duskpaw's death felt realistic to me. His anger at Puddlepaw felt undeserved, but you can understand his lashing out.
Something I was really impressed with was that even though there was no doubt Darktail was evil since I read the main series, he seemed sympathetic and sometimes I felt angry at cats for not trusting him. I even went along with Hawk's moodswings.
I think it was a good thing everything kept going horribly wrong (for narrative purposes) because you really root for them and it felt real. Life doesn't just get better all at once. I felt that since we don't see a lot of SkyClan they should have given background characters more personality, but overall it was very well done.
Also I really hate Plumwillow.
Please read it, it was a really good book, especially for one about SkyClan.
