ehhhh i dont like this
THIS NEW SHADING STYLE IS SO WEIRD
i like the snout tho
This was an art trade between me and Greengecko on AJ Amino.
My eyesight keeps going in and out of focus, I've been on the computer for too long XD
I have a mini rant.
So, a trend I have been noticing in the art community is that it is seen as an achievement not to use references.
I don't get it, I think the more references you use make you a MUCH better artist. I'm not in any way promoting the use of heavily referencing other artists, that is just wrong. (That is a different matter if you are making fanart)
However, referencing real life photos I HIGHLY promote. From experience I can say it helps A LOT with anatomy, accuracy, texture, shading, ideas, and more.
I can see how it would be seen as an achievement to mastering anatomy, but I still think no skill can be fully mastered. Nobody owns a pose, facial expression, etc.
The only metaphor I can currently think of is riding a bike without a helmet. It may seem cool at first, but no matter the skill accidents happen and when you fall it WILL hurt you.
The more references, the better!
(Ironically, I only used one in this drawing)
