After Bill ran upstairs I stayed where I was. Grimacing as I realized my hair was in the yellowish, brown chunky puddle between my hands.
Wiping spit from my lips, I pushed myself to my feet, slipping slightly as my shoe struck vomit. Dragging my shaky legs forward, I once again peered down into the well. All was dark like last time.
Over the yells I could hear upstairs I half whispered into the well's depths "Why?"
A white business looking card spun out of the dark, and I caught it as it hovered at eye level. In curvy red letters it said It's what We are.
I wiped my eyes with a grimy sleeve and tucked the card in my pocket. I jogged up the stairs and back into the kitchen.
Bill and Richie were helping Eddie to his feet and I followed them out the door and down the rickety steps. Even as they continued to panic, I felt numb and detached.
Mike lifted Eddie up into his bikes basket, and Bill let me get on the handlebars of his bike. I couldn't help the anxious knot that rose in my throat as we sped off.
Bill took corners too fast and I could feel his panicky breath against my hair, as he peered over my shoulder. I white knuckled it as we skidded to a stop outside Eddie's house.
I waited on the sidewalk as they ran up, and pounded on the door. Still feeling weak, I sat on the sidewalk and pulled my knees to my chest. I closed my eyes and little firecrackers seemed to pop in the darkness. My brain pushed against my skull, in time with my pulse. I doubt I'm gonna be able to get up.
"You know how delicate he is!" Eddie's Mom was half dragging him towards the car, and I shoved down a giggle. Her hideous pink tracksuit looked like it was stuffed with pillows, I thought wildly.
"W-we were attacked Mrs.K!" Billy stuttered.
"No! don't!" She pushed Eddie into the car.
I managed to get to my feet and wrapped my arms around my middle, as if trying to keep myself from unraveling. Mrs.K dropped her keys and Beverly reached down to grab them for her "Back!" The mother yelled harshly, pointing at poor Bev.
She stepped closer to Beverly and I had to strain to hear. "Oh, I've heard about you Miss Marsh and I don't want a dirty girl like you hanging around my son."
I jumped as Mrs.K swung around and pointed her sausage of a finger at me. "The same goes for satanic freaks like you" She snarled.
She addressed all of us then. "You're all monsters! All of you! Eddie is done with you! You hear? Done!"
With that she got in her car and sped off. Poor Eddie cradling his broken arm.
We started down the street and then Bill turned to me and the losers gang minus one. "Ezra and I saw the well, we know where It is and n-next time we'll be better prepared."
"No!" Stan's voice was high and thin. "No next time Bill. You're insane!"
Beverly spoke up, glancing around. "Why? We all know no one's gonna do anything about it."
"Eddie was almost killed and look at this motherfucker!" Richie gestured to the slash in Ben's gut. "He's leaking hamburger helper!" He glared at me through his glasses. "No thanks to this bitch."
I shook my head, anger boiling in my veins. "You know what? I'm sorry."
Richie went to say something, but I cut him off. "I'm sorry I'm useless," My voice began to rise. "I'm sorry I've fucked everything up. I'm sorry about Georgie and Betty and Eddie's arm and Ben's stomach! I'm fucking sorry I can't help but care about my FATHER! I'm sorry my father is a motherfucking monster! I'm sorry I'm a monster!!I'm sorry I came to Derry!!" I stopped for breath. The losers looked at me in silent shock. Tears pricked my eyes as I said "I'm sorry that I was ever born."
I turned and walked away. I was nearly to the corner when I heard the losers gang begin to argue about both me and my father. I paused and glanced back after a second, just as Bill and Richie began to throw punches.
I just shook my head and walked away. Why was I born?
