Charles

It was a new day that blossomed into another lonely day for me. I'd lost everything and everyone I held dear to me. Raven ran to wherever she may be and made me alone in the house again.

The feeling of being alone wasn't something new to me. I was used to it of course, however the physicality of being alone makes you feel worse then you actually are. It's like you only see the darkness when there's been a light behind you. Love. Loss. Pain. Heartbreak. Four words to sum up my life so far.

I looked at the door, expecting someone to come sweeping in the way they had before. Nobody came and I returned to my silent moping, awaiting something to happen.

I decided to go out to see civilisation again and go buy a new chess set seeing as my old one's pieces went missing. I sighed and pulled a jumper on, then my coat. I stepped outside and felt the harsh wind blow nicely onto my face, it felt good to be in contact with nature again. I'd loved the outside world so much as a child and wondered why I let my emotions overcome my socialism so much.

I saw a shop selling all sorts of board games and whatever people wished to amuse themselves with like skipping ropes and books of every genre. I went in and nodded at the owner before searching for a chess board.

I was already close to giving up after about five minutes in there until I found what I was looking for. It was exactly the same as my old one, but looked better because of the shiny cellophane packaging. Mine was just in a boring brown box. I wasn't fully aware that there was more than two people (myself and the owner) in the shop and as I reached out for the game, someone else did as well and we had an end each. I looked to see a tall man, ginger and green eyed. I instantly handed the end I was holding to him and apologised.

"I am very sorry. I had no clue anyone else was in here! Please take it, I'll get another one." The man smiled with such a wonderful smile that I couldn't help but smile back.

"Thank you very much, your actions weren't similar to what anyone else would have done. Maybe, once we've bought these, we can have a game." He said, putting the chess board under his arm and holding out his hand.

"Most definitely, if that's alright with you. Charles, Charles Xavier. Very nice to meet you my friend. I can tell you're dying to play so I won't keep you much longer." I replied, shaking his hand and grabbing another board from the shelf.

"Erik Lehnsherr. Good to meet you too, Charles." Erik and I walked to the counter and delved in my pocket for my wallet. I pulled out twenty dollars (I live in New York you see) and waited patiently for my item to be registered.

"Good morning sir. How are you today?" The shop owner asked, a thick American accent lining the words.

"Better than I've been in a while, thank you for asking. How about you? Get many customers today?" I questioned, handing over the crisp tens and collecting the bag with my chess in.

"It was very busy this morning, but it's been a pretty quiet afternoon. Nice though.. Good luck with your game later boys!" The shopkeeper said, giving Erik and I a friendly grin. We said goodbye and made arrangements.

"I'm happy for us to go back to mine if you want. There's enough space for a million of us to play in there." I said as we walked along the pavement.

"Sounds great. Lead the way, Mr Xavier." Erik answered, making me laugh and we went to my oversized living space.

I hope you enjoyed this. I sure did. ~@lokiismyvillain
