“come on, say it again. i'm a perfect devil. tell me how bad i am. it makes me feel so good.”

MY EYES OPENED TO the blinding sunlight, and a massive migraine. I felt as if my head was filled with a billion explosives, and my stomach ache didn't help me in any way.

"That's what you get for drinking too much. I'm disappointed in you, Ocean." one of the maids, Alice, scolded me.

"Sorry, but I have this damn headache so I guess I'm already punished?" I flashed her an apologetic smile.

"Here," she gave me a pill and a glass of water. I thanked her quietly and swallowed the pill down. I tried massaging the headache away but it was no help.

"I'll start a bath for you right away so you can relax." Alice informed me, and went to the bathroom to get it ready for me. I took the time to examine myself. My hair was messy, and I had eyeliner smeared beneath my eyes. I played with my hair and imagined what it would be like to change it. "Hey, Alice!" I called her as she walked in the bedroom.

"Yes, Miss?" she answered.

"I want to dye my hair,"

She giggled, “You seem to be very adventurous today,"

"I think it's time for me to change," I shrugged.

"Now?"

"Yeah, why not?"

"It's just- alright. I'll go pick up some hair dye for you. It might be a while. What color are you thinking?"

"A dark brown I guess?"

"Alright. Hop into the bath while I'm gone."

"Okay," I replied, with a hand in the space between my eyebrows, hoping the pressure will stop my head from being so excruciatingly execrable. I went to the bathroom, and unzipped my dress, and undressed myself completely before hopping in the bath.

I inhaled the lavender scented air that filled my lungs with complete bliss. I closed my eyes and allowed myself to relax in the warm water.

"Ms. Ocean? Wake up."

My eyes burst open, frightened by the sudden encounter as I felt my heart leap out of my chest as I stumbled into the water in an unattractive way. I attempted to cover my body with my hands, to do anything to hide myself. Thankfully some of the bubbles helped camouflage me.

I stood up from the bathtub and wrapped myself around a towel, my face beet-red about her seeing me in my birthday suit. How embarrassing, though!

I sat on the chair facing the vanity, in nothing but the towel, and let her work the product in my hair. After about 15 minutes, she was done coating my hair with the dye.

"Stay like that for an hour then rinse it off in the shower." she instructed. I nodded, taking in her instructions so I don't forget. With a nod of her head; she left the room.

I paced around.

What was I going to do for an hour?

I stayed on the bed, fiddling with my thumbs, until the boredom consumed me entirely. I decided to pick out my outfit for today.

I settled on a loose sleeveless dress that ended right above my knees that had black intricate details. It was absolutely wonderful. I picked some sandals to wear with it; mostly because I didn't want to wear heels after nearly twisting my ankles last night.

I laid the garments on my bed in triumph and also got me some undergarments to wear after my shower. Before I knew it, an hour was already finished. Relieved, I slipped off my towel and hopped in the shower. I turned on the water, making sure it was warm enough for me to cleanse my hair.

I washed the dye out of my hair and turned off the running water, squeezing any extra water in my hair. I wrapped another fresh towel around my body and dried my hair in the bathroom. I admired the new color in the mirror. It looked different. I looked more mature; more sexy. It brought out my face.

I slipped on my clothes and put my fingers through my hair, giving it a friendly shake to volumize my hair.

I made my way downstairs, being careful with each step to avoid any clumsy face-planting. I entered the dining room.

"Ocean! You were late to breakfa- what happened to your hair?" Emmanuel asked.

"It's darker?" I answered awkwardly. What kind of question is that?

"But... How?"

"I dyed it?"

"I think it’s okay," Harry quietly spoke.

I ignored his complement and sat in the seat next to Emmanuel.

"I've decided that having you two here has been trouble. I am currently discussing with the other countries about where you will be staying and how you will be accommodated. You can thank me; for I am working my very best to make sure you be as comfortable as possible. Far away from me." he added the last part in a louder voice, his attempt of embarrassing me successful.

"Woah,” was all I could say.

"Does anyone know that we're alive?"

"It's public, yes. The people are excited about meeting you both." he pursed his lips together before pulling out his handkerchief and wiping his mouth.

I heard Harry mutter a curse.

What was so bad about people knowing?

"You know Ocean, I liked your old hair better. It's a shame you dyed it," Emmanuel spoke out-of-the-bloom.

"Sue me," I sarcastically remarked. I was sick of people thinking that their opinion is the foundation of all the decisions I make. In reality, I do what I want because it's my own life and if he had a problem with my hair color then too bad.

"Well. You're quite feisty today, that's not like you,"

I took a sip of my apple juice before speaking.

"Get used to it." I muttered quietly in my breath.
