Chapter 14

As I pulled into my driveway, I saw Dani standing out on my front porch, phone in hands. 

"What's up with you?" I asked as I got out of the car. 

"Dude, one of the books in your room fell and I freaked out." She said quickly. 

"Why is that such a big deal?" 

"I'm just scared." Dani spoke in a shaky voice as I led her into the house. She walked over to the couch and took a seat, setting her phone down. I tossed my keys on the shelf and closed the door behind me, locking it.

"You're okay, everything's fine." I spoke softly, walking over to Dani. 

"I'm so scared." She whimpered.

"Stop being such a baby." I mumbled. 

"I am not!" She sat up quickly. "it was really scary!"

I softly petted her hair, "it's okay, mommy's here."

"Eli!" She shouted, "This isn't the time for jokes!"

"Look, it happened, now it's over. Come on, let's watch TV." I said, picking up the remote and putting on a cartoon.  Dani took a deep breath and held a pillow to her chest as I sat down next to her. 

"So, how was Gavin's?" She asked, clutching the pillow tighter. 

"It was fun." I shrugged. 

"Did you guys do it?" She asked nonchalantly.

"What?! No!" 

"You guys did it, didn't you?"

"We didn't do it, alright. "

"Then what did you do?"

"We went swimming, I played the guitar for him, just stupid stuff." I shrugged again. 

"Mhm. What else?"

"That's pretty much it."

"I doubt it."

"Why's that?"

"Because if you guys did just that, you wouldn't have been smiling like that when you got home."

"You're crazy."

"Your point?"

"Look," I sat up and turned my body towards her. "nothing interesting happened."

"He kissed you, didn't he?"

"No, he didn't kiss me." I lied and rolled my eyes.

"Yeah, yeah he did." She said, still staring at the TV. 

"Why do you think he did?" 

"I know these things. I can tell." 

"You're full of shit."

"So are you. Why won't you tell me?" Dani asked, refusing to take her eyes off the television. 

"Fine," I huffed. "he kissed me, alright?" 

Just then, Dani shot up and faced me, placing her hands on my knees. 

"I can't believe it!" Dani squealed, "He really kissed you?!"

"Yeah, he did." I shrugged, "It's no big deal."

"It's a huge deal! Did you kiss him back?" 

"Well, yeah." I blushed and slightly turned my head to the side.

"Oh. My. God." Dani gasped and threw her arms up into the air, "I knew you liked him!" 

"Shut up." I playfully hit her.
