Multiple sclerosis
A disease in which the immune system eats away at the protective covering of nerves

Jack had always been a happy kid; played football, soccer, lacrosse, basketball, and basically anything else he could. He loved sports, but more than that he loved his family. His three sisters and mom were the best people ever and he didn't mind admitting it. But when one day, during the final football game of the season, he missed a catch and it hit his straight in the eye. Besides the mean black eye he had the next few weeks the pain in his head wouldn't stop. He went to the doctor and they told him it was a concussion, but when he was still in constant pain, couldn't stop shaking while he was trying to throw a football and was so tired he couldn't get out of bed his mom decided it was time to go to the hospital. After numerous tests and a lot of time, they diagnosed the poor boy with multiple sclerosis. It finally made sense why he was in so much pain all the time; the thing was when they tried to manage it with meds he just didn't respond so they told him they would do more aggressive treatment....if he stayed in the hospital. Jacks parents resented the idea but Jack just kept getting worse so they finally agreed. They signed him in one day and whenever he would get visitors it would only be his older sister. She said the others would show up, but they never did and eventually she stopped coming too. Jack couldn't stop thinking he did something wrong even though deep down he knew it wasn't his fault. He was lonely and had no one to help him through the chemotherapy or anything else they pumped through his system; he was extremely depressed and refused anything that would help him....until one day Daniel showed up....

Daniel had always been different, the kids at school hated him, his family wasn't amazing and he was gay- the worst thing. Not that he hated the fact he was but the torment he got and the beatings from his parents and kids at school got to him. They told him he was fat and would never get a guy to like him and that he was gross just being gay. Called him rainbow, fag, and anything else they could come up with. He stared to think what they said was true and stopped eating. He started getting thinner and thinner, but he eventually realized that to make sure he didn't die she did have to eat tiny bits. He worked out more than he ate he and keep losing weight. He did that for months and tried to hide it from his parents, but when he started blacking out they got worried. They started questioning him and that day...that dreaded day he passed out at the gym and was rushed to the hospital; his parents found out when the nurses weighed him in at 102 pounds as a 17 year old boy...not normal obviously. They admitted him and his parents were so disappointed they only ever came to pay bills or sign forms. He was lonely and his favorite nurse, Samantha, noticed and asked his doctors if he could move from the phyc ward to the children's ward where they had the other teenagers, thinking maybe he could make a friend or two. The day he was moved there was a curly haired boy in the room next to him who looked really lonely and sad, just as Daniel was. He decided that he would try and be brave and introduce himself; even if his anxiety was telling him not to. He talked it through in his head for a long time before taking a deep breath and stepping into the hall, only to be almost knocked down by a hospital bed being wheeled through. The boy laying on it just smiled at him before closing his eyes again and being wheeled into Daniels room...he now had a roommate.
