Chapter 9
Minerva had been worried sick since morning, upon the report of Miss L/N; she got herself distracted at some point. One, she was taking the signals seriously –that leads her frowning and to some student she look quite terrifying and no one was Gryffindor enough to make a comment about it –and two, the deserted and faraway look from Y/N in lunch was so obvious –to some perhaps –and too painful to see.
She wanted to ask the Founders about it but the key/book was in Hermione's possession now. Only the girl is allowed to enter the Chamber of the Hearth. Despite Minerva being trusted above all, it was still forbidden to anyone else to step foot there except the Chosen One. Well, she is a chosen too since her link to the Hearth had woken but without the book, she cannot yet enter. Minerva doesn't like the idea of interrupting the know-it-all's classes and had instead prayed Y/N would soon figure out what it is that's bothering her.
Minerva was worried about another thing too and that's the fact why she's being too affected by this.
She reasons with herself of course, danger could be near around the castle and the students may get hurt or worse, but that doesn't seem to be the cause for her. Minerva just wants that frown to be gone. In her free time throughout the day, Minerva would search for Y/N in her tabby form, in stealth motion that is and had watched the girl.
She was free while it was Y/N last class and so when the girl had made her way to the library, Minerva wasted no time and followed behind in the shadows. She watches the scene, of Y/N flipping pages to pages, the entrance of Hermione Granger and their conversation –Minerva was surprised to know that Miss Granger was willing to bend the rule at such exchange –and when the boy, Nathan Colt, had arrived as well. It was then the more Minerva witness.
"It's happening again, Nate..." Minerva heard Y/N's hushed tone and hiss a little at how close the two was being. "The last time... the last time I felt this way was when he tried to get to me again."
'He...?' Minerva pondered, eagerly listening now. 'What is she talking about?' Minerva's form was acting up, it seems, as the tabby cat she is was making small snarls at how the boy was holding Y/N. He even had to courage to pull her much closer!
"Hey, you're okay." a soft move assured and Minerva –the cat she is –stops making noise the three didn't hear. Well, she hopes they don't anyways. "He's gone, yeah?"
'Who is the man they speak of?' Minerva wondered, having the conclusion that whoever they are, they have done something traumatizing for Y/N and perhaps her friend was, too, involved.
"I know." sighed the Hufflepuff. "And I know this isn't about him anymore. But it's here, Nathan, its coming back to me all the sudden and I'm not prepared, I don't know what it's trying to tell me."
Minerva was becoming alarm in each second that goes by. She can feel it, the distress coming from the host of the Hearth. She began hissing, anger flooding her mind as the conversation being discussed was being put aside by Minerva. It was final, Minerva needs to know who the man the two were speaking of and get in the bottom of this, whatever it takes. And so, with this decision, Minerva turns away and stalks the shelves towards the exit of the library, but she didn't get too far when she heard a voice singing.
At first, the voice was quite masculine, a singing voice of a boy that started it all. Music was being played along too and soon that melodious voice that Minerva once heard in the Great Hall, in each Friday night in the Owlery, sings along and the verses was unknown to her, never less, with that heavenly voice, it sounded great.
The voices were like a disease that produces a calming wave that makes you to stop anything that you are doing or about to do and just stay still and listen. Minerva, who was standing above the high shelves, heard footsteps and look down to see two Gryffindor, Katie Bell and Alicia Spinnet, were listening as well and were trying to distinguish where the voice was coming from.
