What can I say everyone? 5 out of 5 stars!? Maybe an exaggeration, but that's my personal opinion of this game if there weren't for a few snags.
Speaking as a girl whose played on many different Monster Hunter games of many different platforms, I can definitely say that World is a keeper. Whether you're a first time player (I've met many of those actually) or you're a vet, it's a good game for everyone.
The best part is that Gunners and Bow users are viable for non-multiplayer gameplay now. It used to be that you had to use specific "Gunner" and "Blade Master" class armors. And Gunners always had lower defense than blade masters, PLUS they had lower attack, really made Gunner classes and long range classes only for the bravest of hunters willing to spend probably an entire 40 minutes hacking at one monster if they were solo hunting.
But now There's no seperation in armor types, so Gunners have the same defense as Bladers which give them more room to pull off more daring and risky moves to kill their quarry, plus the attack has been boosted. You can say that Gunners are now a viable Solo Hunting class.
The Graphics themselves are the best of the best, making full use of the PS4's graphic's ability. With a SEAMLESS world exploration. Previous Monster Hunters needed you to load each area in.. but now you can travel between each area seamlessly like an open world.. allowing you to better chase monsters. Plus with a new more realistic 'hunter-like' way to track monsters by searching for tracks and such, you feel more like a hunter, and it's easier to find your monster the first time around.. and with your scout flies mechanic, you don't have to bother with paintballs! AND to top it off, your sharpening stone item is unlimited now! No need to waste money to keep your weapon sharp in the field hahaha!
Now as for Character Creation.. i can just say.. SO REFRESHING TO HAVE SUCH BEAUTIFUL DETAIL!!!!!
Down Sides:
Now.. okay, there ARE some downsides that did increase my disappointment in the game. Weapon Variety was the largest one. Previously you could forge many different weapons from various monster parts, the variety of which could go well into the hundreds. However, now you only have two weapons: Bone and Metal. Don't get me wrong. You still have all the weapon classes from the most recent game Monster Hunter X and Double X (which didn't have an american release.. but I'm japanese.. so... er... yeah I played it.. sorry everyone in the US!) But, they only come in the bone and metal varieties.
Now in ORDER to get the GOOD weapons that were previously able to forge once you got the materials, you have to upgrade bone and metal weapons on certain Monster Trees. Like for example, you can get some Rathian Dual blades from the Bone Weapons if you upgrade to the part of the tree that leads to the Rathian parts. Like upgrading first to Bone Blades 2 first.. then when you reach the branch in the tree where you can forge the weapon you need.. bingo.. but because of this, everything just looks like the same weapon, only with a few differing skins on the hilt that look like the monster you upgraded from. In other words.. appearances of the weapons are abysmally lacking, with the exception of the some returning weapons such as Sworn Rapiers that retain their appearances from the previous games.
Now to another downside. The story is extremely short. You'll probably reach HR 11 in like 3 days if you don't spend a bunch of time grinding a monster for a plate or something. On the upside though, most of the game is comprised of after game content, with various elder dragons to hunt to gather more awesome gear.
SO right now.. on a MORE REALISTIC point of view as a Monster Hunter fan, due to the lack in weapon variety, I give this an 8 out of 10 (though if it weren't for that weapon deal, 10 out of 10).
This is Miyoko Misaka signing out! And don't worry everyone who has questions for me! I am getting to that as quick as I can!!
