WILL HE
CHAPTER TWOErnest withered in his sleep. His hand coming down tightly onto the scratchy material of his blanket. Broken gasps left the boys mouth. His body jolts forward, his eyes darting around the room, desperately trying to find the only person who could bring him back from the panic.
He lay's back down his head hitting the pillow roughly as his calloused hands meets his face. Trembling breaths left his mouth, he shut his eyes tightly counting down from ten.
It was a trick that Newt had used on him one night, he remembered the way his slender hands wrapped around his chest pulling the shaken boy into a sitting position so that his back was against his chest, whilst he slowly counted down, leaving the occasional kisses on his temple.
His breathing slips back into a more steady pace and he removes his hands from his face.
"Minho, is calling a meeting of the runners!" Chuck voice rings through the homestead earning a collective amount of groans from people who were resting peacefully.
Ernest sighs, sitting up, he winces at the dizzy feeling that followed. He nods at Chuck to show that he would replay the message to the boy's who had not listened to Chuck's message.
Standing up - he lifts his arms above his head, clapping loudly getting the attention of everyone in the homestead, some sat up immediately others stayed laying down but leaned up on their elbows to check out the commotion. Once he was sure he had everyone's attention, he places his arms back down but crosses them.
"Nice to know that everyone has not gone deaf!" His voice came out rough and affirmative, walking up and down he looks at those who were laying down, "you all have jobs, get to them! Runner's, five minutes! Council hall" he yells.
Leaning against the post, he watches as boys start to pile out of homestead like a herd of animals.
He smiles satisfied nodding at the boy's who remained in their bed's due to injuries. Pushing off the post he walks out of homestead, watching as everyone slaved away in the heat.
He nodded at the builders, his eyes stopped onto Gally, he smiles warmly at the boy - who smiled back slightly. Ernest finally reaches the council house.
"What's this all about?" Ernest asks wanting to hear it first, he knew it was a selfish act, but it was not unusual for him to receive information before the rest of the runners.
He was not a keeper or a commander but he did hold a level of authority, Alby saw to it, when he denied the offer to become the keeper of the runners.
"I'm reconsidering," Minho begins, other runners were starting to arrive and he glanced at Ernest but continued on, "it is unsafe to go in and inspect without a plan!" Minho states, "for all we know it's a trap and we all end up dead, worse stung!" Minho yells among the commotion of disagreement.
Ernest stayed silent keeping his eyes trained on Minho, not understanding why he had a sudden change of heart, on the run back he was beaming at the thing they had found to be their ticket to get out of the maze. Ernest clears his throat, "all in favour!" He shouts watching as the rest of the boys including Minho raised their hands.
Ernest nods. "That settles it then. Rest up!" Minho announces to the rest of the runners who scramble out of council hall and to presumably the homestead to catch up on some much needed sleep.
Ernest narrows his eyes at Minho his steady stare full of accusation. He knew Minho was keeping something from him, his suspicion on what grew the more he focused on Minho's shifting gaze. The fact that Minho couldn't meet his eyes gave Ernest an off putting feeling as if someone he knew he trusts had lied to him. Newt. The realisation that his boyfriend had clearly talked to Minho about this last night hit him like a ton of bricks and he felt a tug at his heart as his eyes widened in horror.
His eyes darkened, his jaw clenched tightly. He jogged out council house and stalked over to Newt, without saying a word he grabbed onto his wrist dragging him behind him, the pressure on his wrist was light no matter how angry he was he would never want to hurt him. He stayed silent, ignoring Newt's yells of protests.
He pulls him back into the direction of council house glaring at Minho as he walked out looking slightly ashamed. He let's go of his wrist and pushes him into the room following after him.
"You lied to me?" Ernest asks his voice gentle, when newt did not answer his voice became louder as he voiced the question again. The tension in the room became thicker. "I could of faced punishment!" Ernest yells.
Newt's silence only angered him further. Newt steps backward, his head bowed in not only embarrassment but in shame. Ernest steps forward pushing him back with every step until the smaller boy's back was flushed against the door, Ernest grabs his chin forcing Newt to look at him.
"I was scared," Newt states shakily. This statement alone broke something in Ernest, his stare softened and his hand that was balled against his side loosens and lightly goes above Newt's head. "Every day! I wait for you to come back and every day.. I, think you won't make it back." Newt sighs deflated, "I was being selfish, I not only risked a chance of us getting out of here."
Ernest smiles down at him, leaning down slightly. His lips brush against Newt's, but pulls away sucking in a deep breath before Newt could further the kiss. They stayed in the position for a while, their noses touching ever so slightly. His hand fell from the wall and onto Newt's hip pulling him closer.
Newt inhales sharply fluttering his eyes shut as he felt the older boy's lips move to his ear. "If you ever feel scared, you talk to me, okay?" Newt nods. Blindly swaying to the rhythm of his voice, his head fell against, Ernest's chest as he felt a string of soft kisses being placed behind his ear.
The smaller boy's hand travels up Ernest's chest before lifting his head up with a heavy sigh. "I have duties to get to," he breathes trying to slip out of Ernest's hold, to which he received a groan of protest. Newt smiles fondly as Ernest hesitantly let's go, "make yourself useful! Help out Chuck, the poor shank." Newt orders.
"Did you just use your commander voice on me?" Ernest teases. "I like it" he admits shamelessly walking out of the council house smiling as he heard Newt laugh loudly.
