WILL HE
CHAPTER ELEVEN.

The air felt different, in the glade it held a certain manufactured essence to it; as if even the air that they breathed was not actually there's it was given to them and they could take it away at any time they wished, nobody knew that at the time - of course not, if they knew the truth about their home and who was behind it, the paranoia that was lingering before would spread like wildfire.

Ernest was different, he was in no way the fastest runner or the smartest shank in the glade but he was different - it was as if he was fighting the bonds that made them so ignorant. So they plucked him out, dragged him back to their headquarters ran tests and everything seemed normal - almost too normal, like if there was something there it would not appear certainly not to them at least.

To make matters worse along with being experimented on, he learnt the truth - if he was being honest he was underwhelmed, the government; which he learnt about in the two months he was at wicked, had the money to abduct children and conduct an experiment based an hypothesis.

Breaking out of WCKD was harder than he had expected, sure back in the glade - he had an advantage, unison, if there was a threat they dealt with it as a community, being alone was a bigger challenge and torment than anything he had faced so far.

It was safe to say the first time he tried to break out, it did not go in his favour - he was weaker than them, they had weapons that shot actual bullets and soldiers that could take him down whilst they had their eyes closed. One month must of passed, he obliged and followed the rules - held his tongue, smiled and accepted what they gave him.

When they turned their backs he would spit out whatever he was given, study their routines - how they interacted with each other, picked apart the stern from the easy going. On a particular day his routine changed, a boy and girl they looked fairly young, both white and in way over their heads. He quickly learnt that the boy's name was Thomas - he also learnt that the two watched him in the maze, he saw the guilt in Thomas' eyes as he spoke to him, that did not stop Ernest from wanting to kill him; if WCKD was targeting kids, why were they an exception? What made them special? Or not special, how could the two watch and help build the exact thing that made the people he called his family go crazy, however he bit his tongue - he skipped the niceties and went straight to silence, the girl seemed unnerved by that and was quick to step closer to the door than the boy was.

Rolling his eyes he sat further back in his bed. Thomas watched carefully. Ernest noticed his mannerisms and wanted to laugh, whilst he may not of been nervous he certainly was on the brink of doing something - he could see it in his eyes and his stance. The girl closer to the door was like everybody else at WCKD she stood up straight with her shoulders rolled back and her hair was tied up into a neat bun which in his opinion made her look older, whilst he stood slouched, it was only if you were looking close enough you could see his exact thoughts, he held everything on his face.

"Is that all? You going to stare at me some more or am I free to be by my lonesome.." Ernest's asks stepping up from his place on his bed, he stepped towards Thomas, the girl mirrored his action - he let his head fall the laughter that followed soon after sounded like the product of madness. Thomas titled his head towards the girl, Ernest took that as an opportunity.

He took no time in lurching forward grappling onto the lapels of his jacket he steadies him self and collides his forehead into the smaller boy's nose - with Thomas being distracted by the pain he was in, the girl was distracted by calling for help, he slides Thomas ID out of his lanyard and steps away from him quickly stuffing it into his pocket.
