Later on that night at around about 5pm, I made my way to the restaurant I'd agreed to meet Max at. It was the the Harvester and it was once of my favourite places. It was also one of the places Max used to take me to a lot when we were together.
Seeing as Jay and Lexa hadn't come back to the apartment this morning, I had pep talked with myself over what was going to happen tonight. In no way could I let Max's good looks fool me in any way. I just had to tell him straight out what I wanted to happen. And that was for him to leave. As soon as possible.
I popped my hood up and hugged my arms into my chest. Trust Max to be late on the day it's cold and wet!
I looked around at my surroundings and sighed. Jordan said he would take me to Otterspool one day to go shopping and go to dinner...
"Bea!"
I snapped my head to the left and found Max making his way towards me.
"Hey. How are you?" Max smiled at me and hugged me. I didn't move an inch. "What's up?"
"I wouldn't be so happy if I were you, Max. We're here to talk about stuff, we're not on a date. Am I clear?" I stared at him and he blinked.
"Err, yeah-"
"Okay. Can we go in now? It's frigging freezing out here," I stated.
He nodded a little taken aback and lead the way in.
Once seated in the Harvester, we ordered our food and drinks (I ordered a salad and water, I didn't want to stay that long) and I glared at Max from across the table as he sat scrolling through his iPhone.
I rolled my eyes. "Max?"
No response.
"Max,"
Still no response. I was so tempted to pick up the vinegar and throw it at him at that moment.
Instead I slammed my fist on the table, making everything that was sat on it shake violently. A couple of people looked over but I ignored them. Max jerked his head up.
"What?"
"I haven't come here to stare at you on your phone. I came here to talk," I snapped.
"I'm a very busy man, babe, sorry," he slipped his phone in his pocket.
"Really?" I scoffed.
"Yeah. I'm gonna be running my dad's business soon. Remember I told you?" he winked.
"Vaguely," I rolled my eyes. I needed to change the direction of this conversation. "Err...okay. There is no other way I can explain this, Max. Err...you need to leave."
"Huh?" he frowned.
"You need to leave this city...and my life," I explained. "You can't come back either."
"Jesus Bea, that's a lot to ask. It's a free country you know," Max looked hurt yet he also sounded like he was pissing around as well.
Even more reason to shove the salt and pepper down his stupid throat.
"Don't you get it?" I said rather angrily. "I can't have you hanging around here and getting in the way of what I have with Jordan."
"Pfft," he waved away my comment. "Bea, me and you are made for each other. Full stop. Conversation over."
I stared at Max with absolute hatred in my eyes He wasn't taking this seriously. That pissed me off.
"I'm not getting back together with you, Max," I stated.
"Come on, Bea. I think the kiss we had says otherwise," he watched as the waitress came and gave us our drinks.
"That meant nothing!" I growled maliciously. The waitress gave me an odd look and scuttled off when I frowned at her. I took a deep breath and tried to calm down. "Look, please, Max. I need you to leave. I know what we had was special and I know that you want that again but, the thing is, you had your chance, Max."
He looked at me this time with no air of cockiness about him or anything. All the pretentious swagger had disappeared.
"Okay," he sighed. "You're right."
"Thank you,"
He sipped his drink for about 2 minutes and then put his head in his hands.
"What was I thinking, eh? I knew you'd never take me back, not after what happened between us,"
"I have to admit, you did have your hopes pinned pretty high," I actually let out a small chuckle.
Max shook his head. "Can I be honest with you? The only real reason why I came here was because I was lonely. I miss you and everything about you, Bea. I was the stupidest person in the world that day I decided to end it with you," he looked at me and gave me a weak smile. "I'm sorry for what I put you through. You don't deserve that. And I'm sorry for yesterday. I've screwed things up for you, right?" Max grimaced.
"Just a tad..." I sighed,
"I'm so sorry, Bea," he grimaced.
"It's weird...I forgive you in some way," I frowned. "I wanna ask though, why did you say that my mum sent you down here to 'surprise me'?"
"I heard from your mum's friend that you were now dating some footballer and...I guess I got jealous..." Max shrugged.
"Well, nothing new there then," I joked.
Max raised and eyebrow but laughed all the same.
We stayed in silence until our food came. It was weird, I didn't find this awkward at all. A turning point maybe?
I looked down at my salad. "Damn...should've ordered more and taken advantage..."
"I wouldn't have blamed you. I've been a tool,"
I nodded and tucked into my salad. "I agree."
For the next half an hour I talked with Max about stuff other than things between us. To be fair, it took my mind off of things.
I now didn't hate Max as much as I did at the start of dinner. He'd apologised and had agreed to leave Merseyside. Maybe once and for all I could finally get over him.
We finished dinner and Max paid the bill. We then left and he walked me to my car.
"So," Max smiled at me. "This is it then."
"Yep," I nodded.
"I hope everything turns out okay," he said.
"Yeah," I nodded again, hoping he wouldn't want to hug me. "Goodbye Max," I said and got into my car without giving another look.
I started up the engine and drove off, restraining myself not to look at Max in the rearview mirror. I succeeded, thank god...
I sighed when I knew I was out of sight. Hopefully that was the end of ever seeing Max again. Hopefully he was now out of my life for good.
The only problem now was trying to speak to Jordan. I figured that was the hardest thing I was gonna have to do.
A part of me had a feeling that I'd already lost him though.
