We contiued to walk down the halls, stalked by a crowd of muatant-fans. And before I knew we stopped in front of the door to my room.
"What now?"
"Now, you get dressed."
I blushed. "I already am."
He frowned looking me up and down, "You can't learn in that." I'm sure I could but I didn't want to argue so I headed back to the 'wardrobe room'.
I picked out a nice jeans and a soft blue sweater, and decided on keeping the heels on my feet and the daggers in my hair. I emerged, not only to be confronted by a crowd of mutants, I stood there a second, and after closer inspection, concluded that the mutants were about my age. Some older, some younger. But I towered over them all in my tall heels. I tried to nicely push my way through the crowd, but let's be honest here, alright? I went back to my room, and found Charlie sitting there waiting for me. He was propped up aganist the wall, reading a worn book."What are you reading?" I asked sliding down next to him.
"To Kill A Mickingbird." He answered, still reading.
"And how do you like it so far?" I asked.
He looked surprised. You've read it?
I lifted my lips in disguist, "Of course I've read it! Who hasn't read one of the greatest pieces of literature of all time?! An idiot that's who. Do you think I'm an idiot?" I asked, heatedly.
"No! No! Of course not! Don't be absurd" Charlie answered, with a slight british accent.
"You're are lying! Do not lie to me!" I whispered\screamed.
"I am not lying to you!"
"Think about it! Whatever you are thinking right now, I can see it too."
He ran his hands through his hair. "Right. Right. It's just you had such a good childhood compared to the rest of us."
"Charlie, when did you get here?" I asked, the pit settling deep into my stomach.
"At the first sign of a mutant being, Jane will arrange to take them here."
"And when is the average first sign of a mutant being?"
He stopped and looked at me. "Four."
***
Charlie led me to my room, as I was still having trouble finding my way around. It reminded me of when my friends and I showed a new girl around school. My heart tugged a little, at the idea of my friends. I miss them all, well almost all of them. Not going to name Ginger's name. Or say what I want to call her, becuase I am a good little girl.
Ha Ha.
And then I start laughing out loud, Charlie wondering if something is funny or if I've totally lost it.We finally stopped in front of the door to my room.
