I open my eyes a little, waking up slowly. I could hear my parents talking to each other in the kitchen, trying to be quiet. I shift slightly and roll over, my eyes closed once more. I felt something warm there and snuggled closer, thinking it was a pillow that my parents had given me when they got home. I felt an arm go over me and just pull me a little closer. A red flag immediately went up and I flashed my eyes open to see Dustin there, sleeping still. I bolt into a sitting position and push him out of the bed, having him wake up as he hit the ground with a thud.
"What the hell are you thinking, sleeping in the same bed as me?!? You pervert!!!" I snap at him as he sat up, rubbing his head. He looked at me as if it was my fault he got woken up, which it was. "Quiet, I was sleeping.... And it's too early in the morning for you to be shouting..." He yawned, he apparently wasn't a morning person.... Like I cared anyways. I just huff and grab my pillow, hitting his head with it. "Then go home!" I say, hitting his head again with the pillow before getting pinned by him. His wrist was at my throat as he pinned me. He looked right into my eyes as we had a small, silent stare down. "If my wrist were a dagger... You'd be dead by now." He told me quietly.
I lifted a hand and put it on the back of his head, letting my fingers tangle into his brown hair. I felt him tense up a little, and before he could do anything I yanked his head back. "And that's what you get for pinning me." I state, pushing him off me and sitting up. He just grunts in reply and rolls over, going back to sleep. I roll my eyes and slip off my bed, not feeling like sleeping anymore.
I walk to my closet and open it, I start to look through my clothes, wondering what to wear. I hear a soft knock on my door and I go over and open it. I see my mother and father standing there, looking a bit grim. My mother motions for me to come out of my room. I walk out, shutting the door behind myself. "What is it?" I ask, brushing hair behind my ear.
My mother glances at my father and he nods his head to her. She looks back at me, wringing her hands. "Roe, your father and I have been talking.... And we think it is time for us to let you go..." She told me, her voice soft and quiet. I just blinked and stared at her. "You're joking, right?" I say after a few moments. My mother shakes her head, my father putting a hand on her shoulder. He finally spoke in his gruff voice. "You don't belong here anymore Roe. You aren't mortal." He said, getting right to the point. That made me mad. Den started to spark, and oddly enough it didn't hurt me. I heard a door open behind me, in my anger I didn't realize that I was crying until I blinked and found myself hiding my face in Dustin's chest, my hands clenching his shirt. I could feel his arms wrapped around me protectively as he let me cry into his chest. I wanted to pull away and just hit something, but this seemed...comforting.
"That was not a wise thing for you to say, especially since she was raised as your dearest daughter up until now. Show your respect to us. To her." Dustin snapped, his voice furious. My father started to say something but Dustin cut him off. "I suggest you say nothing else. If you had not been her parents for sixteen years I would have killed you by now. But since she clearly loves you both I will not for her benefit only." He said, his voice still furious, he wrapped his arms around me a little more, pulling me closer. "I will be taking my leave now, and with her as well. I fear you are not fit to be her guardians any longer. Therefore I will be her guardian from here on." He continued, I just listened silently, my crying having been ceased. What did he mean by all this? I hear my parents walk off, for some reason I let Dustin lead me back into my room, his arm around my waist. I was close to him, but I guess that didn't matter at the moment. I sniff and use my fingers to wipe away the tears. Dustin pulls away from me and makes me turn towards him. He uses one hand to tilt my head up to face him by putting it under my chin.
My senses kick in and I pull away quickly. "I'm fine, and don't you dare think I'll be easy to be pulled under your spell or whatever!" I see him just blink, I guess surprised at what I said. He shook his head and put his hands into his pockets. "I was just seeing if you were alright. Not trying to 'pull you under my spell'..." He replied calmly, an amused look in his eyes. I blush a little and smack his chest. "Whatever!! Now get out of here so I can change!" I say, about to push him out. I blink as he handed me clothes instead. "Wear these, it'll be useful for you for where we are going." He told me before leaving the room.
