Kara:

“So, Kara, I was wondering something about you and Ethan,” Rochelle said.

The girls were getting ready to go to the football game. Though she still hated football, Kara loved the chance to be away from school and hang out with all of her friends.

            “What’s that?” Kara asked.

“How come you guys don’t hang out at lunch and stuff?” Rochelle continued.

“Because we really don’t need to spend every minute of the day together.”

“That’s why you’re together practically every night and every weekend?” Shirelle challenged.

“How would you know what I’m doing every night? You’ve been out with Jax every night since last Friday,” Kara teased.

Shirelle gave her a sly grin. “Okay, you got that one.”

“You know what I want to know?” Allison interjected.

            “Not really,” Rochelle joked.

“Screw you,” Allison retorted, tossing one of her teddy bears at Rochelle’s head. “I wanna know the four one one on Roman.”

“What do you mean?” Kara asked.

            “Is he available?” Allison explained.

“If you’re a guy,” Shirelle said with a giggle.

            Allison frowned at her. “What?”

“She means he’s gay,” Rochelle supplied.

            “Are you serious?” Allison gasped.

“That’s the rumor,” Rochelle confirmed. “Come on, Al. The guy’s a freaking ballet dancer. It doesn’t get any gayer than that.”

“So the jury’s still out?” Allison asked.

“Ask Kara,” Shirelle suggested. “They’re like best friends this year.”

All three girls turned expectant eyes on Kara. “If Roman’s gay, he’s never said so to me.”

He’d never said it aloud. Last year, when the secret had been hinted at, he’d confirmed it to her telepathically. So technically, she was telling the truth now.

“Maybe you should ask Mina instead,” Rochelle said.

“Ask me what?” Mina said as she and Megan appeared in the open doorway.

“Ask you if Roman’s gay,” Rochelle explained.

“Why would I know that?” Mina said.

“You did go to the ball with him last year,” Rochelle reminded her.

“Yeah, but our sexual orientations never came up,” Mina countered.

“Then the jury’s still out,” Allison decided. “And until he shoots me down personally, I’m going after him.”

“Where’s Camryn?” Kara changed the subject.
