Chapter Four
My eyes grew wide as I looked between Cassandra who was gazing at Garrett the way I would, and Garrett who wouldn’t stop looking at me. My eyes grew warm with unshed tears and I turned away, feeling Alexander’s fingers rest on my shoulder. Thoughts swarmed my mind on what would be happening now when it came to the packs. They knew I was to be their Luna when the time came, everyone forgetting that truly, Garrett and I were not mates. I closed my eyes tightly and pulled my knees out from under me and to my chest, feeling the smirking looks rolling off of Alexander, the pain from Garrett, the relief from Sam, and the mixed emotions from Cassandra.
“Cassie,” Garrett spoke, causing my heart to clench. He only ever used that tone on me when he would kiss his way from my lips to my chest, telling me over and over I was beautiful even if I didn’t wear a size zero in pants. Telling me that no matter what, he would be here when I woke up every night, cradled in his arms.
I pulled myself from Alexander even though the pain in my ribs were only intensifying, giving a soft whimper when Garrett reached out to me. Growling, I shoved him away, my eyes darkening and my vision growing blurry.
“You jerk!” I yelled, shaking terribly. “I hate you!”
I felt someone’s arms and I jerked away, my body quivering and shaking as I took a running start away from them. My bare feet padded gently against the carpeted floor as I ran to the door, jerking it open to be confronted with another woman.
Taking her in, my eyes trailed from her golden orbs down to the flawless skin, passing the large chest and tiny waist that she wore. Her dress, dripped with a blood red colour and held with gems, clung to her upper form and then drifted out and down, capturing the thin fabric of the carpet in its wake.
“Oh, heavens,” Sam whispered, and I stood frozen. Her lips, swollen and red, pressed together in a thin line as she stared at me and then glanced up at Sam. It was then, I realized, that this was his fiancée.
“Listen to me, Star!” Sam growled, following me around as I tossed clothes into my bag, my hands shaking and bleeding.
His hands wrapped around my waist and the tingles drifted from where his hands were to the rest of my body. I shivered and bit hard enough on my lip to pierce the soft skin and draw blood, causing Sam’s arms to wrap around me tightly.
“Let me go,” I whimpered out, shaking in his arms while I rested on the verge of tears. His lips drifted across my neck and worked their way up, his lips taking the tender skin into his mouth as he nipped gently, lovingly, letting me know I was only his.
I shook and closed my eyes tightly, wanting to so badly to hate this, but I couldn’t.
“Please,” I whispered out, feeling his body tense with mine as he slowly let go. Finally, I threw the rest of the clothes in, locking it and zipping it shut afterwards. Sam turned away from me, trailing his hand through his hair and I could feel the pain radiating off of him.
“I hate this,” he growled slowly, before landing a punch to the wall. My eyes fluttered closed and I bit onto my lip roughly, looking down at my own bloodied hands and seeing Sam’s.
“I’m sorry,” I whispered slowly, grabbing my bags and leaving him behind.
