chapter 5

Delilah runs past Kingston screaming for Jordan to stop but it's too late.

I watch as if it happens in slow motion. The blade comes down with one sharp Pierce through the air.

Her brother's eyes widen in horror as he can't unsee what is happening. The young girl's eyes lock on mine like it's her last plea for help...

One second passes..

Two seconds pass...

Delilah is on her knees trembling... I can't unsee the girls face as the knife pierced her skin... The look of pain that flashed across her eyes.. her last breath as her hand reaching out to her brother slowly falls to ground..

Her brother looks up at me with glisening tears in his eyes..

"She wasn't the Head Hunter.. I am."

My jaw drops.. and so does Kingston's.

The man stands up and shakes the guard off of him. "Y'all are going to pay for what you did to her.. I should have believed the council.. you mutts are monsters."

I can see the guilt flash as quickly as comes through Kingston's eyes.

The man and the other Hunter.. suddenly punch the guards in the face and make out the front door. Before we can react, they're gone.

Delilah stands up slowly. She points her finger into Kingston's chest.

Her voice trembles as she looks him in the eyes. "How could you..how could you take his sister away like that. DO YOU NOT KNOW HOW MUCH THAT HURTS?!!"

She turns towards Jordan who at the moment doesn't seem to know how to react. "And you... You did his dirty work!! You killed someone without a perfectly good reason!! You MONSTERS!!"

Kingston snaps. "That's enough Delilah!! You don't know what a monster is!! Just stay out of this."

Delilah's eyes glisen with hurt and she rushes out of the room crying.

I laugh bitterly. "You don't know her as well as you think.. what you just had done to that poor guy was the same thing done to her."

I get up in his face and quietly whisper in his ear. "Talk to my sister like that again.. and I'll show you what a monster is."
