TREVOR SAT IN NEVILLE'S hand, and croaked almost in a warning way as Neville bounced himself a bit too high and almost flew off the trampoline.

Augusta wasn't watching them, since Neville had snuck outside to play when Augusta wasn't looking—it was almost evening, and he wasn't supposed to be in the garden without Augusta around...but it seemed that evening Neville was feeling particularly rebellious, because he even took to bouncing on the trampoline, all by himself.

"Okay, okay," Neville muttered, "I won't bounce so high. Coward."

Trevor let out a noise of offence, and Neville giggled, "Trevor, you're so funny sometimes, you know?"

I know, the toad seemed to say as he met Neville's eyes with his blue ones.

"HELLO, HEATHER," Dumbledore said as the snowy owl flew into his office and perched on his desk.

The owl chirped a little bit, happy at being recognised by her human name. She nibbled a bit on the owl treats that Dumbledore had left on his desk, probably on purpose for her to eat.

"How are you today?" Dumbledore asked conversationally, as though it was perfectly normal to be talking with a bird, "I myself am quite well. I heard from Travis earlier today, you know," He added, and smiled when the owl perked up a bit more, "Augusta brought him over, with Neville. He's well."

The owl hooted, seeming pleased, and Dumbledore continued, "I'd assume there's something you need to tell me."

The owl bobbed its head, and made some angry noises as though imitating somebody, and Dumbledore chuckled, "I will look at your memory, just stay patience, Miss Black."

As Dumbledore carefully extracted the memory from the owl's mind, the owl shut her eyes and ruffled her feathers a bit.

The old man used the Pensieve to view the memory, and after he finished watching it, he said, "Well..."

The owl let out another angry hoot and bobbed her head vigorously.

Dumbledore sighed, "Everything that has happened happens for a reason, Miss Black. I cannot take Harry away from the Dursleys."

The owl turned its head away almost like an irritated child and fluttered its wings a bit, which only brought a smile to the Professor's face.

"He will be okay," Dumbledore assured her, "There is nothing to worry about, I promise you, Miss Black. You must continue to stay around him, though, and make sure that he is safe."

The owl's head turned back to face Dumbledore with a dutiful gleam as she nodded very seriously before fluttering out of the window again.

Dumbledore watched until the owl was gone.

Author's Note:

Short chapter today, because it felt weird to link the next part to this one because (I don't know if it's a spoiler but it's probably not) there's quite a big time skip, and it seemed odd to put the two parts together...
