"I dare you to!" I smirked, looking into his blue eyes as his smile peeked out.

"Oh, yeah? You got it, Elli!" He said with a playful edge in his voice. I ran away giggling like a maniac. Was he really gonna kiss me? After what seemed like minutes after minutes of him chasing me as I shrieked with excitement and anticipation, we both ended up collapsing on the lush green hillside out of exhaustion.

"I was only kidding!" I said, peeking out between the spaces of my fingers at his smile, which seemed to wobble a bit and his natural blush seemed to deepen as well, if that was actually physically possible.

"Oh," he said slowly, "...me, too!"

Did that sound convincing enough?

I don't know what was going through my mind at the time to be truthful.

We both laughed, trying to catch our breath which was hard because of all the running, playing, and just the expending of energy during the day in general.

"You're the bestest friend ever, Niall."

I said, the smile forming on my face wide enough to leave cracks on my cheeks as if they were made of porcelain, which they closely resembled in color already.

"Yep!" He smiled as we watched the clouds swim by ever so slowly, gracefully, even. We really were extremely close, made so similarly to one another; 'Best Friends for Life', which could bring all the up's and down's and turn around's which we all recognize and become well aware of once you grow up and the real world strikes you hard and society bites your wounds, to almost a complete end.

But that was 10 years ago.

And unfortunately, this is now.
