~Leo~

Waking up, I yawned before stretching. Today was my first day at my new school. Over the summer I had been shipped to another orphanage because the last one found me too rowdy and obnoxious.

Which is fine by me those nuns were annoying.

I rolled out of bed and pulled on a pair of black pants. Another yawn and I was buttoning up a white shirt. With a groan I pull my suspenders up and over my shoulder. I sat down on my bed with a sigh and slipped on my black shoes.

The other kid who shared my dorm wasn't even up yet, in all honesty they didn't have to be. I liked getting up early so I could go outside and watch the sunrise. Of course avoiding other people was always a bonus. So that's why I climbed the stairs and opened the door to the building's roof.

The sun started poking over the buildings of New York not too shortly after. I sighed and started climbing down the fire escape. When I was on the street I readjusted my book bag, a beige thing with lots of pockets, I heard the sounds of the 'city that never sleeps' starting to wake up.

Up ahead a bus stop had kids starting to file in and group together. One of them was a girl who leaned against the bus sign. She had caramel brown hair in a braid over her shoulder and she wore a flowy white dress with pink flowers. She had an expression of complete boredom and I couldn't help but grin.

I walked up to her, the grin still in place, and completely ready to get shot down just so I could figure out why she was so bored. "Hey there Sunshine." I held in my laugh as she rolled her head to look me up and down and sighed. "Why are you so down in the dumps?"

"Listen, weirdo, I don't feel like talking today. Leave it at that." The dark-eyed beauty responded.

"You wound me!" I placed a hand over my heart and kept grinning. "I am a great talker, but I'm also a great listener. Care to elaborate on your need for silence?" The girl rolled her eyes and let out a puff of breath. I didn't know why I wanted her to talk to me so badly but . . . I went with it.

"My dad is an asshole, that's all you need to know." She gave a fake smile then turned away.

"I can't relate to that. I don't know my father. But I do know plenty of assholes, if you want you can rant about him. I'm all ears." I tapped the end of my slightly pointed ear. "I'm Leo by the way. New here to the Big Apple."

"Well Leo, I'm Calypso, and I'm born and raised New York. One thing about us New Yorkers is that we don't open up so easily." The girl explained with a sarcastic smile. "But nice try."

"One thing you'll learn about me, Sunshine, is that I don't give up that easily." I couldn't explain what I was doing, only that I felt the need to. So I kept chatting with her until the bus came and we both got on, she sat by a girl with choppy brown hair and I sat in front of them.

"So Babe One knows a Babe Two?" I grinned as I rested my head on my hand on the back of the seat.

"Who is this?" The second girl asked. She had braids randomly in her hair with feathers placed here and there. She wore a baggy grey sweatshirt and ripped up jeans, ya know, the classic tomboy look. She had a Cherokee completion and eyes that kept changing colors.

"Leo, apparently. Started talking to me at the bus stop and just kept going." Calypso scoffed as she leaned back and sat her white book bag on her lap.

"Well, Leo," The girl said with a grin on her face and a spark in her eyes. "Nice to meet you. I'm Piper McLean." She held out her hand and I shook it with a grin.

"Well, nice to meet you too, Beauty Queen." Piper blinked at the name then scowled.

"Don't worry, he calls me Sunshine." Calypso rolled her eyes and Piper started laughing. And I kept chatting with Piper on the way to school.
