"Roots"
Author: Sarah-Laney
Summary:
In the summer of 1918 a tragedy echoed across the world when the Russian Imperial Romanov family was murdered by communists leaving much of the country crying out in mourning. Yet, there was a myth that one daughter, the youngest daughter; the Grand Duchess Anastasia had escaped. Though many disbelieved, for some this would prove to be more than a rumor and it would change their lives forever.
Annalisa Peterson, a senior in high school, is dying to get out and move as far away from her family as possible. Not that she has had a rough childhood, but she wants to get away from constantly being expected to be the perfect A student and consistently having to visit her great grandmother who doesn't seem to like her, and oh yeah, doesn't speak a word of English.
One final class assignment could change everything that she's ever known, and could literally re-write history. To find out the truth about her family's history, it isn't long before she's digging through old papers, books, photographs, and even travelling to Russia; not to mention getting her heart tangled up with the enemy along the way.
As Annalisa finds out more and more, she's quickly discovering that once the real truth is out, her entire life will be turned upside down, and life will become much more dangerous for her, and those around her.
Secrets are revealed. Questions are answered. One thing is certain; Annalisa never thought that her senior year would end like this.

My Thoughts:
Roots won the Watty Awards a few years ago and made me crave more of its kind- which sucks cause it's practically part of an endangered-species.
Stories like this are hard to come across in a website such as Wattpad. Mainly because they require extensive amounts of research. History, especially those that are clouded with speculations, are not as simple as we think. It does pave the way for some impeccable stories, though.
Back to my point, Roots was a great read and isn't as boring as you may presume from its blurb. I personally prefer this type of Cinderella-story than that of those with playboys and rich douchebags. It doesn't include much romance, though that is precisely what I love about it. Who has time for love problems when you have a throne to steal back and people plotting your assassination? Just kill the guy off, if you ask me.
That said, it doesn't make the story any less appealing. I seriously hope you'll come to read it as it's part of the highly underrated side of Wattpad.
What I hate about it?
The sequel (Branches) is taking FOREVER to update. We need more people inspiring the author to write more. Then maybe, just maybe, more of its kind will replace the billion 1D fan-fictions and the stories whose titles include 'Mate' or 'Blood'. We desperately need something new!
P.S. If you've read and actually liked this, I love you already.
P.P.S. I bet a hundred bucks that if a third book is to be made, it's going to be either Leaves or Fruits.
Remember: Feel free to comment what you think if you've already read it or just finished reading it! I'd love to hear your side!
Cheers!
