Chapter 5
A week after Christmas day, Mel and I decided to go to the Mall for a day out. We were both bored of homework and it seemed like ages since we’d met up. I took the bus into town and met her near McDonalds and we looked around some shops.
After an hour, we hadn’t bought much, so, feeling tired, we headed over to Starbucks for a drink. I had a latte and of course Mel had a bottle of Coke. We sat down and talked for a while, mainly about Mel’s date with Dillan, and then about a project we had to do over the holidays.
“It was SO amazing Soph, we went to the ice-rink in the day, where he showed me loads of skiing based moves on the ice, and then we got ice-creams and walked along the river together. After, we went to a posh restaurant, which overlooked the river. The lights shimmered on the water and we held hands. Honestly, I was in heaven. He kissed me goodnight, and we said we’d meet up again in Easter, I can’t wait, I really can’t.”
“Sounds great”
“It really was Soph, and I don’t mean to brag, but it really was”
“Yeh” I said, getting distracted by a boy in the queue.
She carried on talking for a while, and then suddenly stopped.
“Who are you staring at?”
“Oh, no-one” I said quickly. “So how’s your art project going?” I began, hoping to change the subject.
“Fine, I’m really bad at drawing cans, what ‘bout you?”
“OK I suppose, I’m not too good either, what cans have you done?”
“Coke”
“Sorry, stupid question” I giggled.
“What cans have you done?”
“Vimto”
“Right”
We paused for a moment and I looked around for the boy again, only to find he had sat alone, opposite us. He had short brown hair, deep brown eyes and a huge grin. His lips were red and he looked about 16-ish, he was quite thin and looked fragile. He looked up and caught my eye. I felt my cheeks go bright red, he smiled showing his perfect pearl-white teeth and I looked down in embarrassment.
“Soph! Are you looking at that guy again?”
“No, I’m really not, so…um…what were you saying?”
I felt my cheeks go bright red again.
“That there’s a party at Logan’s house on Saturday”
“Serious, Logan?”
“Yeh, he got in a huge fight with his parents, and now he’s really mad, so he’s throwing a house party to make them go nuts”
“Epic”
“Anyhow, the whole year is invited and so you need to look good”
“Thanks”
“No, I mean like…”
“I don’t normally”
“Soz, didn’t mean it like that” she sighed.
“Whatever”
“So, yeh, I thought we could go to Shabang after this”
“Shabang?” I asked, confused what she meant.
“YES! SHABANG! God you need to get out more!”
“Yeh, I know, what’s Shabang?”
“A really cool dress shop” she exclaimed.
“Dresses?! No way, I’m not wearing a dress, No way!”
Well I suppose no one can say no to Mel.
