"Welcome to Year Two, Flower Class, Jabami!" One of your classmates cheered. The after school gambling was just about to begin, and while normally you would have gone with Yuriko to her club and to watch her gamble, you were more interested in Yumeko. So were the other girls in your class however, and they bombarded her with questions.
"Which school did you transfer from?"
"Any hobbies?"
"What do you do on days off?"
"Have a boyfriend?"
"Let's be friends!"
Yumeko, however, took the attention in stride, to your surprise. She was completely calm and had a very pleasant expression on. You found yourself smiling at her, slowly absorbing all the information you could about her. Despite her odd hair cut, she was very pretty.
Tolerable, I suppose. But not enough to tempt me. You giggled to yourself at the reference as you noticed class troublemaker Meari Saotome stand up.
"Yes, I hope we can be friends too!" Yumeko responded happily.
"Nice to meet you! I'm Meari. I hope we can be friends!" Meari put on a façade. You had never been a huge supporter of hers, but at the same time you had respect for her hustle.
"I hope we can be friends, too, Meari."
"Are you free after this, Jabami? Would you like to gamble with me?"
Now, they had your attention. Despite the fact that you rarely gambled with more than a few hundred yen, and even then, rare for you to gamble at all, you did love watching other people gamble. Especially Meari, who was at the top of your class. She put on such a snake-like face as you saw Ryota finally notice what was going on. He was so cute. It was too bad he was a house pet. If he was a better gambler or more interesting, you might have given him more attention.
"Hey, did you hear? Meari's going to gamble with the new girl!"
"Think she's gonna pull that one?"
Everyone ran around in a tizzy, setting up Meari's favorite game: Rock, Paper, Scissors. You however, looked around the room, trying to decide whether to stay or not. Soon enough however, the game had started and you decided to stand near Ryota. He was basically Meari's own pet right now, so you figured that his placement was intentional.
"What kind of gambling do you have in mind?"
"It's called Ballot Rock-Paper-Scissors, a gambling game that our class devised.
She continued to explain the game as you eyed Ryota, looking for how he would be cheating. As the game begun, you noticed that he hadn't done anything.
"Ready? At the signal, place your card when I do." Meari mentioned.
Meari, scissors: Yumeko, rock.
"So you win the first match, Jabami. Congratulations."
The bet had been small: two chips.
"Thank you very much. I'm going to take two chips, then."
"Now, you understand how this game works, right? Let's keep rolling." Meari was still quite confident.
"Yes. All right, this time, let's go with 50 chips." Yumeko kept the same, placid yet happy look on her face. Instantly, she piqued your interest. Everyone's faces dropped, including Meari's briefly.
"I didn't think you were such a risk-taker." She put the smile back on her face.
"Oh, no." Yumeko's face never faltered. This was going to be fun.
