15: She's Really Selling Them

"She's really selling them, huh?" Ryota mentioned to both you and Yumeko.

"Yeah, that's her job on the student council. She's pretty good at it. I don't even gamble really, but I still want her cards!" You laughed at Itsuki's dedication.

Itsuki however, was getting down to business. Opening the card pack, shuffling and then setting up the game.

"Double Concentration. Let's begin!" Itsuki was excited and so were you. You wondered how she was going to cheat. "After you, senpai. You can make the opening move."

"I appreciate that. I suppose it won't do any good to hesitate on the first move." Yumeko began the game by flipping over two fours: heart and diamond. "They're both fours, but this doesn't count as a match, right?"

"That's correct. My turn next, right?" Duh, you thought. She's such a good actress. "Looking for a four of hearts or diamonds!"

"This game is too hard, isn't it?" Ryota mumbled to himself. "If there's only one matching pair, the odds of achieving it through luck are one in 103."

"Good with math, are you?" You whispered to him as the game went on.

"Ah, um, not that great. Not the top of my class or anything. Just average." He stumbled through his explanation

"Their only hope is to memorize the cards that have already been drawn." You explained. "And I know that Itsuki can do it."

"But there's no way anyone can memorize 103 cards." Ryota looked at you, surprised. "My head already hurts just trying."

You laughed at him and put your hand on his arm, causing him to flinch.

So on edge... Why is he like that? You retracted your hand as Yumeko finally got her first match of four of diamond.

"I believe it was over here... I got it!" She cheered.

"When you get a match, keep going." Itsuki reminded her.

"Seven of diamonds..." Yumeko flipped a card. "King of clubs. Not a match."

"I remember seeing the king of clubs." Her pink and white nail flipped a card. "Here it is!"

And then, excited most likely by your presence, Itsuki couldn't resist showing off. Pair after pair, she flipped cards.

You grabbed your pudding and finished it off, offering Ryota a bite.

"Ah, no thank you!" He blushed at the thought of having an indirect kiss with you.

You however, just shrugged, licked spoon and tossed it all away. At this point, Yumeko had 18 pairs and Itsuki had 22, but the match seemed pretty close.

Just how she likes it. You thought to yourself. If she won to soon and by too much, it would be obvious how she was cheating... I wish I was in the student council room. Someone there would tell me how she's doing it.

The game kept going, with the women neck and neck. Ryota continued to looked nervous, which surprised you. Tugging on his sleeve, you got his attention.

"Why do you get so nervous when Yumeko gambles?" You leaned over and whispered in his ear.

He shivered from the warm breath on his ear and leaned towards you to respond.

"I'm not sure... I guess we're friends. She never gets nervous, so I guess I just get nervous for her."

"That's silly." You laughed and released his sleeve.

You were enjoying your time with him, but one thing you didn't think of was that the student council had cameras on the game. That meant that Kaede was watching you and he was not very happy.
