'The past is a new place to visit but a terrible place to dwell in.'

All colour drained from his face and he pulled away. He gently sat her back down and stood up and went to the window side.

"It all started ten years back...." and his face grew distant.

"We were all happy family. My parents, grandmother, my twin sis and a bro." Hanan gasped at the revelation he had a twin?

"You had a twin?"

He nodded grimly "Yeah."

He rubbed a hand through his face wearily. A faraway look in his eyes..

"We lived with no worries. We weren't rich but we could afford anything. My dad actually tried his very best to make sure we did not lack any. My twin sister Farida, though we were not identical we were similar in some aspects.. We had the same taste in music, food and fashion which is actually weird cos we ought to fight when it comes to that aspect. But that's where we are different.. She's easy going and gentle whereas am quite the opposite.. Rude and gets pissed easily. My mom tried to caution me about this behavior of mine but it turned on deaf ears cos it has been a part of me."

"Then came one day..." Suddenly, his face turned grievous and dark. He clenched his fist, tight, his vein popping out. She didn't know what to do to make him feel better.

"Granny wasn't feeling too well, but I wanted to see the new mall in town. My friends in school has been talking 'bout it. I wanted to see it too. My mom claimed my grandmother is sick and needs attention and care but I insisted. Since it's weekend and we do go out almost every weekend. So why not today? My grandma just dismissed it with a wave of hand and told them we could go and leave her. Afterall, it's just for some while. Before we knew it we would be back"

"I was really happy. Mom sighed and agreed reluctantly. If only she hadn't agreed to my stupid idea. If only I hadn't suggested... So many if onlys..
And so we embarked on a journey to see the new mall. Then all of a sudden we didn't see it coming, a trailer was coming our way, the driver driving recklessly which was later known to us he'd been drunk. And before we knew what was happening it collided with our car really hard. My dad tried preventing the collision but that had been lame cos he was in an argument with me about getting a better grade in school. "

"And I had been arguing claiming my results are perfectly Okay! And he began with the comparison with my sis and I've had enough which resulted to us yelling and my mom trying to calm us down. I'd inherited my bad temper from my dad. He was also short tempered. My bro didn't even intervene cos he's on headphone. He's addicted to it. And in one way or the other, any time we should start this issue or if any argument should arise, it's an escape for him. With it, he wouldn't have to deal with us."

"Farida tried telling my dad I'm actually doing the best I can. But my dad being my dad likes perfection. He does not like any error, just things going his ways. And that piss me off really badly. 'Doesn't he see I'm trying my best here? I'm giving in my very best!' I tried making him see things from my own point of view. But nah he want to see all As in my results. And my mom had tried reasoning with him so many times but nah,he won't yield. She is fed up already. So we were at it again, so everyone couldn't even detect the coming trailer until it was too late. My brother was lost in his own world already. My dad's Anger didn't even allow him to think straight. The car collided with the trailer and it capsized sending us flying and hitting the ground firmly."

"Meanwhile, during the course of the argument, my mom had removed her seat belt already and was facing us and my sis in a compromising position. My poor dad couldn't survive the hit and died instantly. And so was my bro and twin sis, Farida. My mom suffered a severe head injury and many other on her body. Don't even know how I survived. But before she died she made me promise her and advised me before she closed her eyes... Forever.. "
