She took in a deep breath. This was a good idea. She thought to herself reassuringly.
She then made enquiry and a worker gave her the information she needed. She took a deep breath and walked there. Hands sweaty.
She saw the back view of someone. He was engaged in a conversation, more like an argument. She couldn't make out what they were saying from the distance. She moved closer and her suspicions were confirmed. "Hanan?"
"Hussein" She acknowledged.
"What are you doing here?"
"I should be asking you that. This is my husband's company" She raised her eyebrow.
Shoot! He muttered. Then grinned sheepishly. She smiled too, his smile contagious.
"You saw what I sent?"
"What?"
"You didn't see anything?"
Hanan furrowed her eyebrow and shook her head no. He didn't write his name there so she obviously didn't know it was from him. "I sent-" On the contrary, he thought against it. "Never mind" He dismissed.
She tried racking her brain but couldn't recall receiving any gift.
"Whats that?" He asked motioning to the item on her hand.
"For my hubby"
"Oh!"
"Yeah"
Just then she remembered the doorbell ring and she saw Faaiz, enraged. The package in the waste bin. His anger which she felt was because of what she said. But she couldn't place the connection.
She lost balance and Hussein quickly held her in place. She gave him a grateful smile just as she heard the ding of the elevator. They were at the ground floor.
"Yeah. Sure-" His step halted.
Hanan quickly left Hussein's arm. There before her was Faaiz, a thunderous emotion on his face. One hand on his ear receiving call, the other in his suit pant.
He ended the call and moved away as if he didn't see them. She ran after him. "Faaiz!"
He stopped clenching his fist. He clenched the phone in his hand tightly almost breaking into two.
"I brought you-"
"I'm not eating" And he continued walking. She caught up with his long stride.
"Its not what you think you saw" they were already creating scenes. Which is the last thing she needed at the moment. She needed to clarify and explain things to him.
"I didn't see anything or did I?"
"Faaiz.." his expression hardened and eyes turned cold.
"He's the one that actually cares for real right? Yeah. Go meet him. He doesn't have to justify his answers and you don't need to clarify his sincerity"
She held his arms and he shut his eyes momentarily and spoke calmly even though he was furious inside.
"Pls don't make a scene here"She nodded. "Are you coming back home?"
He turned to face her, then glared at his employees who were already gawking at them and they all rushed back to what they were all doing. He patted her back "Another seconds here and I would do something we might both regret"
"So that's an indirect no?"
He paused and didn't turn around this time around. He shrugged.
And he left her. She felt devastated. She turned around and saw Aminah, a mischievous glint in her eyes.
