You sat down in your usual spot for lunch, ready to blast music since no one would really talk with you anyway, even though you're sitting near a bunch of people.

Taking out your laptop, you opened up some playlist on YouTube that you liked and turned to the work that was due in around an hour since you were a great procrastinator.

Before you could get into your work, however, you glanced up and saw one of the boys near you give a box of chocolates.  The girl gushed over it, taking it and kissing him on the cheek.  You looked away, rolling your eyes.

In the distance, you saw your ex give another person some flowers, making you feel even worse.

Shaking your head, you got back to your work.  Valentine's Day was just a stupid holiday to remind you of everything that could go wrong in a relationship.  That's all... anyway, you didn't have anyone to share it with, so what was the point?

"Erm... (Y/N)?" came a familiar voice from above you.  You looked up and saw your crush, Mark, standing above you.  You quickly took the earbuds out of your ears.

"Hey, Mark," you greeted casually, your heart already starting to race at the sight of him. "Happy Valentine's Day," you smirked.

"Yeah, you too... could you come with me for a second?" he asked a bit sheepishly.  You nodded, wondering what this was about.  He led you to his locker and while he opened it, you started a conversation with him.

"I assume you already have a date?" you laughed.

"Hah...." he chuckled, but didn't answer your question. "Actually, (Y/N), I don't...."

"Really?  Someone like you?" you scoffed, starting to get hopeful.

"Nah.  So, here." He pulled out a small box of chocolates. "You barely eat, but you seem to like the stuff I give you, so... here.  It's for you."

You were speechless. "R-really?" you whispered, taking the box with shaking hands.

He nodded. "You mean it wasn't obvious that I had a major crush on you already?"

You giggled nervously, gripping the box to not drop it. "I-I honestly just thought you were being nice to a lonely loser like me."

"You're not a loser." He shook his head firmly. "You're pretty cool." He smiled a lopsided smile. "You are lonely though, I'll give you that.  I want to change that."

"You don't mean that," you laughed. "Thanks, though."

He just shrugged, blushing.  He closed his locker and slowly took your hand. "I thought you didn't get cold," he snickered, commenting on your freezing, shaking hands.

"I also thought you didn't like me," you muttered.  He walked you back to your lunch spot and sat down beside you.  In the distance, your ex was staring at you.  You just smiled at Mark, leaning your head on his shoulder with a pounding heart.  As you closed your eyes, you could hear Mark's pulse matching yours exactly.  Calm, yet a thunderstorm of excitement and relief.

Maybe Valentine's Day wasn't as bad as you thought.

Just a little something about my own crush that I know will never happen.  He's ignoring me right now.  I think I did something for him to hate me.

But on a brighter note, happy Valentine's Day!  I was up all night watching those cheesy Valentine shows they always put on TV this time of year.  It's a good time to spend with the ones you love... and if you don't, then you can just stay with your family.  Or by yourself, up in your room, eating ice cream and contemplating your life choices on how you got here in your life until you find yourself sobbing your eyes out because you're lonely and desperate and it finally clicked that no one will ever like you and you're useless.

But don't worry, that's just me.

Positive mental attitude! :)

(Is that hypocritical now?  I feel like that's hypocritical.)
