I slam my locker shut and enter the classroom just as the bell rings. Almost all of the students are already in their seats and I feel everyone's eyes watching me as I take my seat next to Lattie. Today we are a seat in front of the ones we were in yesterday so we are second to the last seats. She smiles and I smile back.
Apparently I wasn't the only one who was late because the door opens again and Théodore walks in. He smiles apologetically at the professor and moves towards me. What is he doing? A brunet that sits behind me watches him the whole time and I scowl. Why did I just scowl? He rests his hand gently on her shoulder. I'm watching him but when he looks up at me I turn back around.
In just barely a whisper I hear him talk to the girl.
" Hey, do you mind if I sit here? You can sit in my seat?" he asks and gestures to the brunet to one of the empty chairs in a couple rows away in the front. I slowly turn back around to see the girl nodding in a trance like way. She's pathetic. I scrunch my eyebrows as I scold myself. What is wrong with me today?
The girl picks up her bag and walks over to his seat. I roll my eyes as some of the girls around her giggle and the brunet smiles and raises her eyebrows as if she's saying, " I know, right?"
I feel Theo sit right behind me, his breath making my hair stir slightly. I don't look back at him as I ask him the question that has been on my mind since he asked the brunet to move.
" What was that?" I don't even have to look at him to know he is confused. Don't play stupid with me.
" What?"
" Why did you make that girl leave?"
" I don't know. I just didn't want to sit in the front anymore."
" We've only been here one day."
" I've sat in the front since I was 12. I don't want to anymore." a smile creeps onto my face. Why am I smiling and why is he so...irritating?
" What made you not want to anymore?" I raise one of my eyebrows even though I know he can't see my face.
" Because the professor creeps me out." I snort, something I normally don't do and many students look our way.
" Am I interrupting something, Ms. Coleman?" I didn't realized the professor had started the class.
" Oh, no. Sorry sir." For the rest of the class I don't talk to Theo and he doesn't talk to me. The second day of school goes faster then the first and soon I am sitting down at the picnic table with Lattie for lunch. She gives me a mischievous smile and I smile back with my bottom lip between my teeth.
" What?"
" What was that with Theo today? And where did you go after lunch yesterday?" I roll my eyes and continue to eat my lunch. I'm just about to tell her but then I see Theo walk across the grass. I'm staring at him, but once his eyes find mine I quickly look away. What is up with me today?
" Lilyanna?" I look back at Lattie. She must of asked me a question while I was in my weird trance thing.
" What?"
" Did you hear me?"
" No sorry. I was...distracted." a smile tugs at her face.
" Was Théodore distracting you?" she raises her eyebrows. I giggle like a school girl, which I guess I am, and shove her playfully.
" No! No he wasn't."
" He wasn't what?" I am startled by the sound of Theo's voice right next to my ear.
