I leaned up against the mast, staring at the stars. I was working the night shift with Frank, who was actually really nice. We've been becoming good friends since he came aboard.
"So where are you from?" I asked loudly. Frank was by all the commands and stuff was from.
"Canada," Frank replied. "What about you?"
"I was born in Germany, but my father moved me to Oregon," I replied. "I believe my dad's back in Germany at the moment."
"Was he born there?" Frank asked.
"Yeah," I replied. "He's Afro-German. I actually learned German from him."
A pause. "Cool. So your nationality is German?"
"Yeah, I guess," I replied, picking at the boards below me. "I love it in Germany. But I don't remember it much. It's nice."
"Maybe after all of this we could go there together," Frank muttered offhandedly.
"Maybe," I sighed.
We sat in silence. It was nice. I looked back up at the stars. My lonely soul wanted to be up there so badly. It couldn't happen though.
The dawn came too early, though. Piper and Leo came to relieve Frank and I. We walked down the stairs and to the floor with the bedrooms. Frank and I departed from each other and I went into my closet.
I stepped into my room and climbed on the bed. It swung for a bit, but it actually helped rock me to sleep. It felt nice to sleep. Sleep was fun and the only thing that took me away from this terrible place.
I woke up to my bed swinging violently. I sat up and almost fell out. The swinging made me feel sick to my stomach. Thankfully, it stopped and I heard laughter. It was Piper who was doing this.
"Piper!" I groaned.
Piper stopped herself, giggling a little still. "Come on, Ezzy. We're at Charleston and we need you."
I groaned and got up. "Okay, okay. Just let me get dressed."
Piper left and I opened my closet. I chose a white dress with navy blue patterns and heels. Heels weren't a problem for me. I could easily run in them and I had good balance. Most of the time.
I braided my puffy hair as best I could and left. I almost tripped going up the stairs, but I had thankfully grabbed the railing.
"You alright?" A voice called.
I looked behind me and smiled. "Yes, yes, of course. Don't mind me."
Leo laughed. "Don't let me get in your way, Princess Clutz."
I laughed, standing up. "You're the one talking, Leo. You don't have to wear a skirt."
Leo shrugged and we continued upstairs. Leo and I joined the rest of the crew on the deck. I stood in the back, listening. Soon, Leo, Jason, and Frank left for a museum to look for something. Terrible memories weren't fun when something important happened.
