The knock happens again.

"Nope, nope, I'm done. Send him home I'll deal with it tomorrow." I said while taking off my shoes.

"You're not acting like this, be an adult - Josh! Hello! Come in!"

I heard a polite thank you and footsteps into the door.

"Just getting your shoes on?" He said holding his hand out to me, just like his first day here.

"Uh, yep!" I quickly put my shoes back on, "Ready to go!" There was something in him that seemed nervous, almost a child-like look.

"Don't do anything I wouldn't do!" My sister yelled as the door closed behind us.

"Food?" I said above a whisper.

"Sorry, what was that?" He said looking at me.

"I mean," I cleared my throat, "Where are we going?"

"Oh! Do you like sushi?" He said while we stepped into a cab. I shrugged.

"I've never had it." I looked down at my hands, beat up and worn from years of working.

He turned so his leg was crossed and he was looking at me. "Oh, Arianna, it's so good. You'll love it. There's a lot of options and if for some reason you don't like it," He coughed, "I'll make it up to you." I smiled at him.

"I'll probably find something, but I always enjoy trying new things." He slid away to tell the driver where to go, I straightened out my dress.

"Oh, I forgot to say, that dress looks great on you." I blushed and looked at Josh. He was wearing a black and white patterned shirt, black pants, black shoes. Like me, all black.

"You look nice as well."

"I didn't know if I should wear my hair up or down." He said jokingly. I laughed along with him.

When we arrived at the restaurant, the nerves settled as we sat across from each other at the table.

"Wine?" He asked me, I nodded in return. I laid out my silverware, as I always do, and placed the napkin on my lap. "Nervous for tomorrow?"

I shrugged, "I don't get nervous anymore. Are you nervous?"

"Always. There's always that fear that you'll get a dead audience. Or that I'll forget the lyrics." I thought about that.

"I guess since I don't preform, I never have the fear. It's always just light cues, sound cues, is everyone where they should be. You wrote the songs, how could you forget them?"

"Uh," He took a sip and laughed. "There's a lot more things going on in my head besides lyrics. Like if my pants are going to fall down."

"Belts, a new invention." He shook his head with a grin. "Sorry, but I understand what you mean."

"Your hair, it frames your face nicely." I pushed it behind my shoulder as he said that. "Well, now it doesn't." I flipped it back with sass.

"Have you always sang?" I asked him.

"For as long as I can remember,  probably sang my first words. What about you? Always backstage?"

A took a long drink, he probably thinks I'm an alcoholic. "I used to sing with my dad. Until I was 16 or so, but when I was 12 I found theatre and I've only acted a few times. So, yes and no?"

"You sing?" He rested his elbow on the table.

"I sang. Past tense. It's different, Josh."

He shook his head, "It's not different, you don't just stop singing."
