~Eren's POV}~
It was a beautiful sunny day at the training camp. The fresh young recruits that made up the 104th Trainee Platoon were getting broken in by Commandant Keith Sadis. A hard military veteran with enough grit in him to kill a man off of a whim. He walked up to a short, black haired, fair skinned girl. She pronounced her name to be Mina Carolina. Her voice...it sent violent chills down my spine. She had a strong air of confidence that surrounded her. She had a strong spirit within her. Sadis eventually finished with the platoon, and we then returned to our barracks. I changed out of my uniform and put on my red shirt and tan pants. As I walked outside I noticed a small group of people. There was Connie, Thomas, Marco, Armin, and...her. I quickly attempted to rush into the building when Armin caught my sleeve.
"Hey Eren, why don't you come out here with us?" He asked
I couldn't say no to Armin, so I leaned forward and let the guardrail brace me. If I just play it cool, maybe she will just continue to not notice me. I had broken out in a cold sweat. Everyone was waiting for me to say something, so I began frantically scanning the area for something interesting. Finally, I saw a wagon traveling out of the camp with some people inside.
"What's that over there?" I asked
Thomas looked up and saw the cart.
"Oh, those are the dropouts. They chose work in the fields over life in the military." He said
I felt as if someone just stabbed me in the chest. That made me slightly agitated.
"It's only been the first day though. All they've done today is yell at us. I couldn't understand why anyone would choose work in the fields rather than to fight." I said
I heard someone step closer to me, followed by a warm hand on my shoulder.
"Eren, you've got to realize that some people just aren't cut out for the military." said a sweet voice.
I turned around to see who it was as if I didn't already know. I turned around to see her standing there. Mina Carolina, mere inches away from my face. I immediately flushed red.
"Umm...I think it's about time for chow guys." I said hurriedly
Before they could say anything else I ran off to the mess hall. It wasn't until I reached the door that I remembered it was a full hour until chow time. I fell back against the door and slid down to the ground.
"Damn it, what the hell is wrong with me?" I said
I tilted my head back to become lost in thought. Sadly for me, the sudden sounds of someone walking up to me drew my mind back to reality.
"What the hell are you doing here Yeager?" Asked someone
My heart stopped, and I couldn't breathe. It was Commander Sadis. He pulled me up off the ground.
"I know that look you've got. I'll come back later tonight to get you for a little chat. I just need to wait for Potato Girl to finish her little jog." He said
I nodded my head yes in understanding. He wasn't acting like he usually does with the recruits.
"Sir, why are you being nice to me?" I asked
He came around and backhanded me to the ground.
"Listen to me Yeager, there's a difference between offering advice and being nice to someone. I'm only offering advice. Keep that in mind. Now, get your ass in there. Food's hot and ready. Tell them I gave you the Commandant's Special. They'll give you something nice." He said
I did as I was told, and entered the mess hall. I went up to the serving line, and the mess worker asked me what I'd have.
"Commander Sadis told me to ask for the Commandant's Special." I said
She looked behind me to see the Commander nodding his head yes. Then he left, and I was given a meal that looked like it was fit for a king.
