Dresses of varieties of colors and shapes filled rack after rack, but only one color stood out for Akane, royal blue. Despite being thrown into a mall with heaps of battle ready women, she still had the determination  to find her color. This color meant something to her. It was more than just a pretty shade of blue, it was her ticket to pure confidence. She planned to hide herself in the depths of the dress and become someone she wasn't. Her chance to start all over was tonight, her freshman high school prom night.  Nothing was to get in her way. This wasn't edgy middle school anymore and she knew that. First impressions were critical to her.

"I really wish this place wasn't packed" Fuka addresses, as she carelessly examined a boxy black dress. "It's starting to get hard to breathe."

Fuka was Akane's best friend since preschool. Fuka, had anything a girl could dream of, making it strange that she came to a off brand store with Akane. Everything about her appearance screamed out money. Her father owned a glassmaking company, that really hit off in the 90's.  Their sudden income of extreme wealth, cause Fuka's personality to become snippy or stuck-up.  Unfortunately she did not considered this to be a blessing, instead a curse. Finding friends became a challenge for her. Either they used her for her money, or to become friends with her powerful father. Akane knew this and pitied her. Together they stayed friends, even though Fuka's rude personality spoke out more than it should.

"I guess it doesn't matter what dress i wear tonight. I'm sure i have something back at the house" She places the dress back down and looks at Akane, "Tonight is all about you! Aren't you even a little excited??"

Without even realizing it, Akane hasn't even smiled today. Her mind was fixed on tonight and tonight alone. It wasn't the day for being happy, it was her day to be perfect.

"Oh, yea. I'm just kinda nervous." Akane puts on a fake smile, to convince Fuka's arguments.

Fuka raises her eyebrow, giving her the 'I'm not buying it' look, "That's normal. Happens to everyone, but YOU have a natural beauty. I promise, you have nothing to be scared of."

Akane looks at her hands shyly, before reaching out for the next bluish dress. The dress felt silky and light. Giving her hand a pleasurable sensation when she lightly rubbed it against her fingertips. Carefully she pulls the dress out from the sacked rack, to get a better look at it.  The bottom perfectly poof outwards, while the top hugged the breast section. Light sprinkles of shiny gems cover the torso region, giving the blue a more silver outline.

"That's pretty" Fuka's approval confirmed how precious this dress really was.

It was. It really was the perfect dress for Akane,  but her head was filled with anxiety and 'What if' thoughts. She wasn't fully satisfied, she probably wouldn't be satisfied with any choice she'll make tonight.  Desperately she fights back the negativity, and forces herself to agree with Fuka.

"Yeah! Looks kinda slutty at some places though.." Her negative thoughts overran her human will, and spoke for her.

"Akane.." Fuka's patience slowly disappeared, and her rudeness  started to arise. "It's a nice dress."

She looks at Fuka for a silent moment before darting her eyes back down.  Akane looks up to Fuka. So much so, she begs for Fuka's approval and blessings.  Her natural confidence and pride, cast a long narrow shadow over Akane's timid and shy personality.  Clearing her mind, Akane forces herself to like the dress.

"Yeah you're right!" Her hands stagger for the price tag, "800? That's not that bad. It's around the budget."

Feeling a little bit better, Akane proudly pushes the dress up to her body to check the size.  The silkiness of the dress felt nice against her legs and chest. Maybe this was the perfect dress for her. It sure did feel perfect. With the limited confidence Akane now had, she walks up to the cashier.  Fuka followed behind her, grateful the hard part was over. Almost as if she was in a rush, Akane stuffs her hand into her purse and pulls out a wrinkled handful of money.

"This one please" Akane politely hands her money to the man over the counter.  He glances at the wad of unsightly money, before opening up the register.

Tonight was now thrilling for Akane. Everything was falling into place. Perfectly.. Nothing  will mess this night up. New school, new me, new life...

"Maybe a new  boyfriend?" She blushes at her own thoughts.
