Chapter one:

The Deadlock

“Where the heck is Walters?!!’’ shrieks Howards.

“This is rush hour, Sir,’’ Shana says softly, stunned by John’s tone.

The deadlock had been going on for hours. It’s crazy. Those terrorists have all kinds of weapons. We’re talking Dragon Snipers and RPG-7s on the roofs, AK-47s and pistols in the buildings and a whole lot of shotguns on the streets.

Suddenly, one of the snipers on the rooftops is tripped and pulled away into the darkness of the night and the terrorists shoot in that direction. It is far too dark to see anything, but the snipers are filled with dread.

“Over here…” a whisper, “No, here…” increasing the factor of every man’s fear.

“What did he…” the man is pulled off into the darkness and shrieks on his way.

“What the freakin’ hell?!!” shouts another criminal, traumatised by his ally’s disappearance.

“This, you idiot!” a fist meets the terrorist’s face, and his face meets the floor. “C’mon!” shrieks Walters.

He soon takes out the remaining terrorists on the roof, so that the NYPD officers have a clear route to the criminals on the ground. Unfortunately, Walters catches the eye of Del Roy, who happens to have a RPG-7. Walters has survived encounters like this before, but the only means of escape would be to jump, and jumping would mean instant death.

He looks around, for anything he could use to survive what’s coming. He picks up a FAL, cocks it and aims. He waits for his opponent to put a rocket into the barrel of his RPG-7. Once the deed is done, Walters pulls the trigger of his FAL. Three bullets hit the rocket and it explodes on impact.

The rest of the officers take care of the people below. Jack Walters stares at the fiery fumes and sees something that he will never forget. There is a dark figure that rises up within the flames, and hisses in his general direction.
