Chapter 12:
The Battle
Jack walks quietly through the empty chambers, stalking the King of Demons, unaware that he is the one being stalked. His nose twitches when he smells the odorant of burning sulphur and blood coming from Abaddon’s kitchen. He enters what looks like the throne room, scouting the area. To this day, he has never really been afraid of demons, he is only afraid of losing the ones he loves. He will be able to take on Abaddon, not alone, though, and he knows it.
Dave finds himself moving through the palace, still perplexed by the size of it. He walks through the king’s bedroom, sensing evil, his stomach churning. He approaches the end of the room, where he finds a door leading to the next one. Why did he and Jack have to disband? It would have been so much safer if they didn’t. He puts his hand on the doorknob and turns it. He opens the door, finding nothing there but darkness. He scans the environment and takes out his flashlight as he enters the room.
He rushes over to an empty cabinet and rushes over to it, checking if he can find anything in it. All he does find is a bottle of Johnny Walker and an empty packet of Nik-naks. He checks to see if there might be any left by turning the packet up-side down and shaking it, finding only cheesy dust in it. What he doesn’t notice is that a huge reptilian beast rises behind him, supposedly trying to smile, showing off its many sharp teeth.
It isn’t until the creature drools on him that Dave lets out a sigh, puts the flashlight in a strap in his belt, takes a knife out and stabs the creature in its nose. The creature lets out an eerie cry and tosses him across the room. He immediately gets up and tackles the monster. They both come crashing through the wall, enabling Dave to turn off his light whilst the creature rises to its feet. Dave positions himself for the coming attack, giving the creature a horrifying grin. The creature tries to circle him, rendering him defenceless. The creature could strike at any time, he just has to be ready to counter-attack when it does.
Suddenly, the creature leaps forward. Dave slashes it in its back, causing it to drop as Dave spins forward and takes out another knife. He stabs it multiple times in the back, but the creature rises to its feet and hits Dave in the stomach using its tail. He immediately drops his knives, puts his hands to his stomach and groans. The creature leaps on him and its weight causes Dave to fall to the ground.
“And…they…all…fall…down,” slurs the creature in a pathetic voice as it retracts its claws and scratches Dave’s face. The toxins in its claws burn Dave’s face and he screeches in pain. Blood trickles down his body, coming from his wounds. The creature licks his wounds, loving the taste of the blood. “You…are strong…little…one,” it declares, sliding its claws down Dave’s body, cutting him. Dave notices his knife lying next to them almost too far to reach. Dave slides his hand over to it, fearing his fingers may be broken. He reaches it with his index finger, not succeeding to take the knife.
“Nancy,” he says, under his breath, “help me…”
“She…is…not coming,” the creature states. It readies its arm for the final blow. “Prepare…to die,” it pronounces, poorly. Just as the creature attacks, Dave manages to pick up the knife and let it sink in the creature’s neck in rapid succession, killing it instantly. Dave rolls the body next to him. He immediately falls asleep on the ground. He could have died.
Meanwhile, the troops start firing at the demons, killing many of them, under Max’s orders. The demons drop like flies, dying rapidly and repeatedly. Max’s grandmother is the one killing the most of them. From now on, Max would always allow her to stretch his cheeks…even in public. Never give your grandmother a 40 Calibre, because she might enjoy it too much. Shana keeps on firing at the demons with her Sniper, always on target. They stay in position. What the demons don’t know is about their plan. The have opened a portal within a cave, but are staying there so that as soon as the get to close, they can close it as soon as possible.
