Down the hall from Maria Hill's office, the Avengers had gathered to listen to what they thought was going to be Delaney Valente yelling at her boss. But the only action they got was a visibly angry Delaney leaving Hill's office with her purple snake secure in her arms.
While the Avengers moved to start arguing about who the cause of the whole mess was, Loki left the group and made his way towards Delaney's office. Using one of his many abilities, Loki made himself invisible to everyone. He didn't want to be seen stalking the intern.
He was watching her office door, trying to talk himself into going to check on her. He would've liked to have someone there for him when he found out the truth of who he truly was. Loki didn't like much consolation or contact and Delaney was the opposite. He wanted to help her. Delaney was definitely the kind of person who liked to be consolidated when her emotions were all over.
He remained a safe distance from her office for a while, just listening to what he could hear going on inside the room. Then an agent tried to get Delaney to open up.
"Laney? It's me." Kevin spoke, knocking softly on the door. "Do you want me to go out for some Ben and Jerry's?"
There was a while of silence before she answered.
"Not yet, Kev. I-I need answers first before I talk it out."
"Okay, sweetheart. If you need me, all you've got to do is call me."
Loki watched as Kevin moved down the hall. Steve was making his way through the hall in the opposite direction.
"How is she?" Steve quietly asked Agent Williams.
"Not good." Kevin didn't stop to talk to Steve. "Would've done better if you and Stark had been sensitive about the topic, considering who she is."
Steve nodded his head, knowing Kevin was right, and brushed his hands through his hair. Loki watched as the Captain made his way to Delaney's office and lifted his hand to knock on the door, however he hesitated for a moment. Loki shifted where he stood, knowing very well that he couldn't be spotted by Steve or anyone else, and Loki watched as the Super Soldier knocked on the door.
"Delaney? It's.... It's Steve."
"Now isn't a good time, Captain Rogers." Delaney's voice was meek from the other side of the door.
"Okay. I understand. I just.... I want to apologize for keeping it from you."
Loki shook his head. These idiots. They were so quick to play with everyone else's emotions and even quicker to make empty apologies.
"Later, Steve." Delaney spoke quietly. "Not right now."
Steve nodded his head, his furrowed brows showing how upset he was with how everything had gone.
"If you need me, Delaney, just call."
"Okay, Captain. Thank you."
Loki did his best not to snap a snarky comment to the Captain as he passed by again.
After about ten more minutes of standing there, listening to Delaney's thoughts, Loki decided to try and talk to her. He made himself visible to everyone and approached her door. He took a deep breath and knocked on it three times.
"I think I'm ready to talk now, Delaney." Loki's voice was soft as he spoke through the door.
There were a few moments of silence before the door opened to reveal a very disheveled Delaney Valente. The white button down that she had been wearing was no longer on her body. Instead, Delaney just wore a white, thin strapped tank top and her favorite cherry blossom floral print pencil skirt. Her makeup had been cleaned off of her face and her hair was tied back in a terrible excuse for a bun.
