Loki sat on one end of the sofa in Delaney's office with a book in hand. One arm was around Delaney as she leaned against him and worked on assigning agents to certain missions.
"How much more do you have, darling?" Loki glanced down at the paper she was reading. She circled a name with a yellow highlighter.
"Just as much as when you asked me five minutes ago." She turned her head and looked to Loki. "Why?"
He shook his head, frowning pitifully as he continued to read the book. Delaney smiled softly at him and turned her attention back to the papers in front of her. The lights suddenly cut off. Delaney stood to her feet, placing her papers down on the coffee table. She waited a few heartbeats as the Compound fell eerily silent.
"Where are the emergency lights?" She whispered, taking cautious steps towards the door.
"Delaney, wait."
She didn't listen to Loki. She pulled the door to her office open and glanced both ways down the hallway. It was empty. She went back into her office, passing Loki, and retrieved her pistol from the coffee table.
"Something isn't right, Loki." Delaney turned on her earbud but it was silent. "Come on."
"Shouldn't we just wait here until the lights come back on?" Loki half whined as he followed behind her. "I can't see a damn thing."
"I can. Just follow my voice." Delaney held her gun towards the floor as she moved through the hallway. There was movement on the floor above her, though she was the only one who could hear it. There were layers and layers of steel and metal between the two floors. "There's a few people moving around above us."
"How do you know?"
"I can hear them moving. They're agents." She felt that they were being watched. Something wasn't right.
"How the hell do you know?"
Delaney came to a stop. There was someone standing at the end of the hallway. Loki bumped into her, his hand reaching out to grab whatever he could to make sure it was actually Delaney and not a wall.
"Can you see them?" She whispered to Loki. She felt fear ripple through her insides. The person was just standing there. With his hand on her side, Loki was able to see what she was seeing using his magic. He stiffened up at the sight, a sense of worry settling in the pit of his stomach. He used his telepathy to read the person's mind. His grip on Delaney tightened. They were there to kill her.
"Run." He whispered, pulling her back so that she was behind him. "Run!"
"Are you coming?" Delaney put her hand on his wrist, her eyes flickering up to the back of his head then to the person at the end of the hall. The stranger began to run towards them. Delaney tried her best to make Loki run with her. Her heart was racing and she was terrified.
"Go!" Loki pulled his wrist from hers and made two daggers appear in his hands. Delaney shook her head, taking a few steps towards Loki when arms wrapped around her. She dropped her gun to the floor.
Whoever it was held her tight and her arms were pinned by her sides. Loki was too busy fighting the creep in front of them to assist Delaney. She kicked against the person's shins, hoping her heels would do something. When that failed, she let her knees buckle to try to make the person let her go. They were strong enough to support her weight so that attempt was useless. Delaney threw her head back, colliding with the person's face.
"Let me go!" She raised her voice, using the strength she tried so hard to keep down to rip herself out of the person's arms. As soon as she was free, Delaney grabbed her gun and turned to shoot at the person who had grabbed her. Just as she was pulling the trigger, Loki had finished off the man he was fighting. He turned towards the sound of the gun. He could see the faint outline of Delaney moving. She was shifting her weight from one foot to the other.
