Songs POV
I'll be honest, I'm really nervous about meeting Ella. I mean, my brothers all say I'll be fine, but I really don't want to screw this up! I get out of the car, slinging my bag over my shoulder. I don't really know how to act around another girl, and what if this girl wants to be my friend (LIKE ACTUALLY)? I walk up to the steps of the school and am greeted with the LOVELY face of Salina High School.
"Hello Song. How are you today?" Mr. Ebenezer asks, forcing the words out of his mouth. Mr. Ebenezer hates me. Don't ask me why, I won't have an answer, but ever since he got the job, he has despised me.
"Hello Mr. E. I was spectacular until I saw your face!" I grin at him. Ok maybe I do know why he hates me.
I hear laughing behind me, as Mr. E's face turns bright red.
"That is another detention for you this week!" He spits in my face.
"It will have all been worth it, I love seeing your face everyday. It brings joy to my life getting to make fun of it!" I laugh and pat him on the shoulder, passing him to go into the building.
"Hey! Wait up!" I hear a female voice behind me, it must be Ella.
I turn around, and see a very pretty girl behind me. I blush and smile at her, "Hello."
"Hi," She holds out her hand to me, "I'm Ella!" She gives me a dazzling smile as I shake her hand.
"Hi, I'm Song... Can I help you?" I ask, hoping I didn't sound rude.
"Oh," She giggles, "I'm sorry, I heard what you said to the principal. That was pretty gutsy. I liked it."
"Ha! Look at that, you're finally making friends!" Jean snickers.
Jean was a typical, snarky, 'I want to make your life miserable because it's funny' boys. He has been out to get me since I stole his juice box in kindergarten. Hey! Don't judge, I was thirsty! Now I know what y'all are probably thinking, but I promise you I am not THAT rude. I'm actually pretty nice when you get to know me. It's just that some people get on my nerves, all of which include; Mr. E, Jean, and anyone else who likes to put others down.
"Har har Jean. Your presence isn't wanted here, I'm sure you have tons of better things to do." I stare pointedly at him, and he swallows hard.
"Ha that'll teach him, you don't mess with Song River." I mumble under my breath.
"Umm... Song theres a dude behind you." Ella says from the right of me.
I turn around to find Christian glaring at the retreating figure of Jean. I slap his chest, "Darnnit, I actually thought I scared him away."
"Song, you could never scare someone. You are too cute and cuddly looking." Christian frowns at me.
"Anyways, Ella, this is my brother Christian!" I give her a warm smile.
"And here you thought you would make a fool of yourself in front of her." Sawyer says, coming out of nowhere.
Ella waves at my brothers, blushing slightly... hmmm? I wonder what that means. "Aren't we supposed to be in homeroom?" I ask her. She would probably want to make a good first impression.
The bell rings. "Oh, I was pretty sure that homeroom was supposed to start awhile ago?" I question, a puzzled look probably on my face.
"Yeah why is it so quiet?" Christian questions.
"You guys didn't hear?" Kai says really loud, making us all jump.
"When did you get here?" Christian questions.
"So, I was talking to Lance, and he told me that Leo had been seriously hurt in a car accident." Kai hesitantly looks over at me, my hand immediately covers my mouth as I gasp. Leo was one of my best friends! How could this happen? "Everyone was a little late today, and so thats why its so quiet and all."
"I-Is Leo going to be ok? What's the damage?" Leo has been my best friend since I was little. I had ran away from my brothers because they were in a really bad argument.
Flashback
"Why do you have to be so difficult?! Mom would've been there."
"Well I'm sorry I'm not mom. I can't do everything." I look up at my older brothers. They were always getting into fights.
"I hate you! Why couldn't you just be there for once? Just once. Is that too much to ask?" My brothers started to take sides. It was always, 'Mom would've done this, mom would've done that'. But all I wanted was the screaming to stop.
"Why do you always fight so much? Can we j-just be nice for a change? I don't think mommy would've wanted you to fight." I ask my big brothers, scared to get involved.
"Shut up! Maybe if you weren't born, mom would've still been alive!" I gulp, tears spilling out of my eyes.
"I'm sorry!" I sob, then blink. They didn't want me here, I should just go.
I run out the door, hearing calls of apology and my name, but I know they didn't want me there. I wasn't wanted anywhere. All the boys called me weird, after I was born my brothers always fight. I run in a random direction. I didn't know where anything was, I was only eight.
I ran until I bumped into a little boy-he looked like he was ten, but I couldn't tell through the tears in my eyes. Arms wrap around me, helping me off the floor. "I'm s-sorry, I wasn't watching where I was going." I hiccup, shivering from the chilly fall air.
"Where are you going?" The boy asked, a concerned look on his face.
"Away. No one wants me here! Not my brothers, not anyone at school, not one of my neighbors." I tell him, looking up into his brown eyes.
"Why would you go. Wouldn't you be even more alone?" He wipes a tear rolling down my face with his thumb.
I shrug, "It would be better than seeing my brothers fight." I felt embarrassed. This boy was probably doing something important before I came, I was just being a bother.
"My mom used to say, 'Always stick around your family, they will be the ones always to stick by you', would you like to be part of my family?" He looks at me with hopeful eyes.
Flashback Ends
From that moment on, I may or may not have had a tiny crush on the boy who picked me up off the floor. I couldn't bare the thought of losing him! I hold back, but I couldn't help the heart wrenching sound that came out of my mouth. I feel my feet backing up, on instinct I fall onto the floor. How poetic that I have fallen after the boy who picked me up has gotten injured. I felt arms wrap around. One of my brothers, for sure. I cling onto Sawyer, looking up at Kai, "Is he going to be ok?" My voice cracks, but I have to stay strong.
"Do you want to go see him tonight?" I hear Christian ask, and, not missing a beat nod my head frantically.
Oh my steve! That was an emotional chapter. Thank you all for your patience. I may be an ok writer, but I'm the worst at updating long chapters in a reasonable time frame! Can anyone guess whats going to happen next? What do y'all think of this Leo dude? Seems interesting to me. Give me some feedback. What did you like? What didn't you like? How can I improve my writing? Thank you for everyone who actually reads this all, and puts up with the long wait. Anyways, I love you roses.
