I remember the day my dad died. That day was bittersweet. I remember mama picking us up from school. She drove us to the hospital and I was confused. When we walked in the room and saw dad lifeless on the bed. I hollered and I balled my eyes out. Seeing the bullet wounds and what they had done to him had me scared shitless. That image is stapled into my mind. A part of me was happy that day. Cause I knew nobody would hit me anymore. But I knew I would miss him. Despite the fact that he was an abusive ass hole my dad and I had a special bond. Well at least when I was younger. He used to take me to the carnival and the park and give me a wad of cash to go shopping. Anything I wanted I had at my fingertips.
I stared at my ceiling. Tears flowed down my cheeks. I wish I didn't have to go through this. I got out of my bed and drove to the hospital where mama is.
At the hospital
"Mama." I said softly. She opened her eyes and looked at me. She looks so drained and weak.
"Heaven aren't you supposed to be at school?" She asked.
"I couldn't stay today. I had to see you."
"I miss you."
"I miss you too."
"Heaven honey."
"Yes mama."
"I'm dying."
"I know mama."
"I don't know how long I have left."
"Mama.."
"Listen child. When I die take the will and get the inheritance."
"But I can't touch it until I'm 18."
"Don't worry you will be 18 in 3 more months."
"You're right."
"You can collect the inheritance from your father too once I die."
"So what if you die after I turn 18?"
"Whatever your father left won't be enough to keep y'all alive he was a reckless spender and hardly saved so wait on mine."
"Okay mama."
"I love you Heaven."
"I love you too mama."
"Bring my babies one day."
"I will be back with them in an hour."
"Okay."I left the hospital and went home.
I checked the fridge to see what Ty bought. My bitch filled up the fridge. We have fruits vegetables and meat. I decided to cook a meal to kill some time
I took out some potatoes out the fridge. I peeled them and put them in a big pot. I put the pot in the sink and turned on the tap. I let the water fill up halfway way before I turned the tap off. I turned on the stove and put the pot on the burner. I opened the cupboard and grabbed the salt. I added the salt to the pot.
Then I got some drumsticks out the freezer. I seasoned them and laid them neatly in a aluminum pan. I smothered the chicken in barbecue sauce. I turned on the oven and slid the pan on the tray. When the food was finished I grabbed my keys and went to pick up my siblings. Kyle and Nyah's schools aren't far apart. So Kyle walks to Nyah's school to avoid traffic. I pulled up in the school parking lot. Kyle held Nyah's hand and walked to the car. They both hopped in.
"I'm hungryyy!" Nyah whined. I expected that from her.
"I made dinner." I said.
"Yay! Yay!" She squealed. I looked in my rear view mirror and saw Kyle roll his eyes. I chuckled.
I drove home. When we got home I fixed plates for all of us. We all ate our dinner.
"Change your clothes." I said to them.
"Why?" Kyle asked.
"We gonna see momma."
"What?"
"Yeah so change y'all clothes when y'all done eating."
"Alright."At the hospital
Nyah sat on momma's lap. Momma cried and held Nyah.
"You got so big." She cried.
"Don't cry momma. You will be ok." Nyah soothed.
This making me wanna cry. Kyle kissed momma on her cheek. I could see something was up with him.
"I miss y'all so much." Momma said.
"When you coming out?!" Nyah asked.
"She ain't." Kyle said.
"Kyle." I scolded.
"It's true. Her ass probably gonna die in here."
Momma started balling tears.
"Kyle Anthony Meyers apologize to momma. That was very rude." I scolded.
"But its true."
"Kyle honey..." Momma started to say.
"Don't baby me. Yo ass could of taken care of us but instead you fucked yo self and we can't take care of ourselves. You got Heaven busting her ass. Just die already."
"ENOUGH!" I yelled. Kyle stared at me. And momma was crying. Nyah tried to soothe her.
"Momma I'm sorry about Kyle. We have to go." I said as I picked up Nyah. I carried Nyah and Kyle followed. At home
Kyle stormed into his room. Nyah followed behind.
I walked in his room.
"What the hell was that?" I asked.
"I just told the truth." He replied.
"Nigga I don't give. That's yo momma regardless. Treat her with some respect. She gonna die any minute and that's how you treat her?"
"Ain't nobody told her to fuck up her liver."
I smacked the shit out of Kyle.
"Don't be cussing in here. Go do yo homework."
Kyle held his face and I walked out of his room.
